Friends of Mr Kearney said he'd been equipped with an emergency harness but had been picked up by the storm so quickly that he didn't have time to use it.

WTF is an emergency harness if you can't use it in an emergency -or does it call 000 (or 911 in Mr Kearney's situation) on landing.

Stribo,
BTW, how many worms were in that can you opened 46 minutes ago?

I was reading that Kite surfing safety forum the other night, the one that reports on incidents and accidents and gives recommendations. One of their big recommendations is don't kitesurf in a storm or when a storm is approaching.

The speed he travels through the air is incredible, must have been doing at least 70 km/h. Amazing he did not die and hopefully he will not live the rest of his life wishing he had died.

God Almighty. The poor bugger.

I guess the unknown in this one is whether or not he was foolish enough to be kiting intentionally in that storm or was he caught out.

I think the important thing is - was he seriously injured ?? Still alive??

Will some good come out of it as a warning to all to respect strong storm winds?

Anyone that finds this accident amusing or "loves it" has serious problems as a human being ! Especially as it is a fellow water/windsport person.

Imagine the boot was on the other foot and say some windsurfer was taken out to see by a rip and people where openly celebrating it.

Yes it would have been in very poor taste if someone had posted some sarcastic remarks about windsurfing in the thread discussing the death of the windsurfer at Caloundra earlier this year.

I agree completely, it is not on to take the p!ss (or be happy) when somebody dies or is seriously hurt.

BUT To complete your anology: everybody knows about the rip and sails elsewhere... but every day there is always some idiot sailing in the rip despite warnings. This happens so often that after a while people do take the p!ss as they are sick of the rogue element in the sport

So if the boot you mention fits, perhaps the sport as a whole needs to wear it.

Landyachtie, tell me......
Just looking at your avatar pic,
Why do you wear such a gay steamer wetsuit when you do buggy sailing ?
I mean, there's no water....

My apologies to all ,it was a bit thumbs down .
The lycra suit keeps the wet sand, salt, mud windblown sand off nicely.
Havent yet got in a buggy. there was a new one came to Kal a few weeks ago and the kiter couldnt wait to get out to the lake so he set up in a park in town................ he lifted off after about 10seconds and broke an ankle on landing.
Im wondering if this Kitesailing should be done away from other humans.?

I thought you called those canoes-on-wheels that you drive, 'buggies'.
By the way, the lycra suit is pretty gay.

Your probably right about the suit. people have been telling me that for 25 years. The suit is so comfortable on a hot day at the salt lake tho. Only time it felt wrong was when I was driving home sfom sailing, too lazy to change ,and got pulled up for speeding. Did get a few strange looks on the side of the road that day

From: http://www.deepfried.tv/forum/Postings.cfm?HP=0&ID=1295

"There was a tremendous quantity of blood around the man. He was unconscious but quivering. The man had two ragged holes in his knees, a bad laceration to his forehead, broken ribs and perhaps other undesignated injuries. He started to moan and come around but was delusional and started to say over and over again, "Let me go home, I don't want to kite anymore."

Indestructible sense of humour?
