It's been a dodgey dealing game for ages, and most of us don't really think about it, until you want to go to a sold out show.
For example, the missus and I want to go to soundwave starring all the oldschool rockers from the 90's - Blink 182, The offspring, Metallica, those sorts.
We did leave it a bit late and prolly would've missed out anyway, but looking on gumtree we thought 'beauty there's heaps of tix on here.'
Yeah, the slimey pricks want 300 bux each! someone was trying for $1000 for 2!
What do you think would be a solution to this problem? Or do you reckon it's ok?

Why do you feel like you deserve cost price when you made the mistake of waiting too long to grab a ticket? They're not slimey pricks... You're just a cheapskate.

If you don't like it mate - you should've bought a ticket at the right time like everyone else...

I think it's crap.

If they are making money on the ticket sales I hope they are paying the income tax on it on their profit. And I am sure there are people out there making a lot of money doing this, so the true fans have to pay a fortune to see their bands.

Problem is they are the people first in line to buy tickets.

Yeah It's making money by ripping people off, and whoever thinks thats cool, well[}:)]
I spose on the tax side of things the gst will ensure that they'll pay somewhere down the line.

scalping is a violation of the terms and conditions of the ticket.
If you report them to the promotion company, in most cases they will investigate, now more than ever.

I'd be careful about buying the online tickets especially - which they probably all are. I know that there were a number of fake oztix branded tickets being presented at festivals this summer that people said they had bought through gumtree and ebay.

If you're desparate to go, just go down to the venue 5 minutes before start and offer half price. If they're desparate to get a sale, it would be better than nothing.

Not quite right there !!

The scalper that just happens to work with me has some inside contacts and used mates and family to buy up big on tickets to sports events and concerts. He then sells them on or if he doesn't have what is wanted contacts his other scalper mates and takes a cut when he gets a requested ticket. Made some pretty good coin there for a long time - I think he may have pulled his head in due to "people watching".

So sometimes it ain't a level playing field 'cos you may be batting against scalpers and their mates who know their way around the ticket procuring game unlike some of us who only want to go to an event occasionally.

Gumtree etc was a great place to sell for him.....[}:)]

1. Ticketek are the true scalpers - like $15 handling fee for printing your own tickets.

2. True Story: Once hung outside big day out with a mate, about $5 between us, no tickets. It was a hot hot day. Some dudes gave us 1/4 bottle bourbon, couldn't carry in with them. Found some ditched spray bottles, $2 jobs. Begged some ice water from a backpacker type with an esky selling beer outside the gate. Sprayed him in return. Walked straight thru entrance tent spraying every official type with ice water mist. Stopped at armband hander outer, got armbands, sprayed them down, walked on in. Day just got better from there...

3. They are all old, fat, tired and slow now. Best not ruin your memories anyway...
