Well I've gotta say I must be just too old to get this $hit. I'm sorry cause my kids stayed up to watch Flume. C'mon dude get off the Apple. Crack would be more honest than this sampled rubbish.

Should be Triple V. Very Very Very disappointed. Contrived $hit, kinda makes Waterhouse look honest! For Gosh sakes.

His big crescendo was just to speed up the mix....

Bring back Double Jay!

Dunno, I don't mind a bit of sampling. There's been some pretty damn good albums built around samples, like the Avalanches first album. 100% samples if I recall correctly and home to one of the greatest songs of all time,
%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DeS3AZ12xf6s this song is sheer brilliance!!

And don't forget Arrested Development, US3 or PM Dawn, loaded with samples but a soundtrack for a generation that may not have been familiar with the source of the soul, Juinior Wells et al. It's all a walk down the path to enlightenment.

Fast forward to the 90's and noughties and you're talking artists like Tom Waits, with his album Real Gone, recorded instrument by instrument in his bathroom and knitted together 'cos he liked the jangly sound.

And pure joy like Citizen Cope, once again recorded piecemeal.

There is some amazingly talented artists around the place who struggle to share their ****, doesn't mean they aren't worth your ears.

Hang your head in shame op. JJJ should be applauded for putting shows on in regional Australia. Many of these kids will never experience live music from so many artist's,even if us old bastards that do not like it. I was blessed to grow up in time before poker machines destroyed the live music scene. So I'm pretty sure these kids would have been stoked to experience such a gig.wow you must have been one of the grumpy banjo players who hated Elvis as well. For me I just whacked on the CD player through Bluetooth from my other magical musical device and listened to flume playing holding on. Freaking brilliant. So I think it is time fore you to make fire from two sticks to cook
dinner tonight. All I can say is bravo to JJJ and the artists for looking out for the kids in regional Australia

I remember when ELO was getting bagged back in the day for using backing tapes I guess they were pioneers in their day, watched the show last night they should have also featured a band/muso that would have got the crowd bopping a bit more Flume was great but it's sort of music that I would relax to not bounce to.

Sheeesh you read a hell of a lot into a very short post.

At what point did I say I don't like contempary music?

At what stage did I say kids shouldn't see live acts?

At what stage did I say the whole gig sucked?

My point was putting Flume on as a "live" act to my mind sucks. Sure it sounded kinda nice but what was "live" about it. May as well have watched DJ, wow..... The audience looked interested but uninvolved and kinda bored when he came on. There's a lot better acts that get the crowd pumping.

Yeah I watched it and don't get it. When did some bloke standing in front of a computer become "live music".

That makes playing a CD on the radio a live performance. So any major act could just send some dude with a recording to their next performance. Sucked in punters!

Glad the "regional" kids had a good time

U guys should actually try making electronic music, mixing and beat pads etc and get back to us and tell us flume wasn't performing "live" music.
I think you'd find yourself very surprised.

I love the irony of music 'fans' paying money to go and see a bloke with a laptop and some flashing lights. They're applauding the DJ. Not the music, not the musician, not the creator, but the medium.

Yeah just like ppl go and see AC/DC and applaude "rock music". Not the band.

some stuff

I had to read that 4 times to figure out what you meant...

Crack would be more honest
get off the Apple
makes Waterhouse look honest

??

Once I figured it out, kinda, then I digested it. Then I paraphrased it.

"I don't like modern music"

Fair enough dude, I'm sure there's a local FM station playing greatest hits of the 70zzzzzzz all day long, pink floyd, led zep, and stealers wheel going round and round, all day long, all year long. I'd rather be waterboarded in abu graib but each to his own.

Electronic instruments can be exactly the same as any others (just better!) they require timing, physical skill, memory (what sound each key makes) and a shedload of practise to sound good and/or make it look easy.

+1

Not sayin I mind his toons but live on stage about as enthralling as watching wallpaper peel.

Half of the time electronic dudes are tweaking 'the magic fader'. It does fk all as the 90% is pre sequenced, and playing back regardless, but they need to be seen doing something - even if it's actually nothing!?

Had to really laff at hyped up teens pumping the air well out of time and about 50 BPM too fast!! Ha ha ha, get off it.
