ABC TV covered this story tonight with footage of a heap of kites setup on a beach??? Could have been file footage from 2005 Freestyle & Wave Nationals?

What the hell is the world coming to - this is the sort of s#$t I expect in some of the worst places I've been overseas but not here in my home State!

Its terrible. When the murderers are found and identified properly I would be happy for the police to quickly shoot the lot of them, and hide them in the dessert. People like that have no right whatso ever to breath, eat , sleep anything in my opinion.
Hearing stuff liike this is very angerfying.
(And, slightly off topic, but it shows the woodies boys that aggression with a bat/hard long object can and willl very easily kill somone.)

Yalgoo farmer killed in beach cricket attack
26th December 2007, 13:30 WST

Police have released the name of a WA father-of-five who was killed during a beach cricket game with his family on Christmas Day.

Yalgoo farmer William John Rowe, 49, suffered a serious head injury when he was allegedly struck with a cricket bat during an altercation with another group of people at Sunset Beach in Geraldton.

It is understood Mr Rowe was playing cricket with his family about 8pm yesterday when an altercation erupted with a group of up to 25 Aboriginal people.

His 29-year-old future son-in-law was first slashed in the face with a broken bottle, then had his jaw and collarbone broken.

As family members attempted to convey the injured man to hospital, it is understood Mr Rowe was hit over the head with a cricket bat.

Both men were transported to Geraldton Regional Hospital by family but Mr Rowe died at 2.30am from serious head injuries.

He is survived by his wife and five children – three sons and two daughters.

The 29-year-old man, who required 35 stitches to his face, was in a serious but stable condition today.

No-one has been arrested over the attack. Police are calling for any witnesses to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Ian,
I'm still trying to figure out your motive for posting negitive crap like this on a kitesurfing forum.
The deceased was playing beach cricket when this unfortunate incident occurred....
What's it got to do with kitesurfing ?
Where's the connection ?
If I want to read negitive sh1t, I'll buy a newspaper.
Stop posting poison.
The bad-vibes are good for nothing.

Please can I ask everybody to remember:

* This is a public forum open to all races, religions and ages.
* It is not appropriate to generalise another race based on the actions of a few.
* It is not appropriate to discuss race here.

Some of the posts that have been removed because of the reasons above.

Thanks for your understanding & support!

Cheers .. Laurie

The connection could be that it happened at the carpark at sunset, the main rigging area for sailing, kitesurfing and surfing that wave.

Waveslave, I have no motive - at the time I posted little info was available and ABC TV showed footage of kites on a beach and I was hoping someone in Gero could enlighten me as to what the connectiin was (if any).

Yeah right.....

Is it Seabreeze.com ......?
Or is it Sea NN ........?
Are we here to talk stoke.....?
Or are we going to report on every goddamn mindless assault that erupts all too frequently in this volatile world ?
That's why it's good to escape to Cyberia.
I call seabreeze my internet game-show.
I tune-in most nights except public holidays.

Mr Slave

I think it is totally appropriate that in a "general" forum on a wind/kitesurfing web site that people discuss a murder which occurred right on a beach which is windsurfing and kitesurfing mecca.

People like yourself and Rex need to realise that it could have been your missus or kid killed by these same people at that very beach when you wind/kitesurfed it

It will be public outrage (and only that) which eventually results in the Govt introducing appropriate penalties for these people. That public opinion forms and is propagated in discussion groups like this.

I'll save the rest of my anger and the 2 pages I could write about those animals.... and leave my reply at that.

Don't need to preach to me about it mate, this has been going in gero for a long time, I think it is totally appropiate to discuss the issue rather than pretend its not happening.

Totally disgusted. Looked on the front of the West, and emergency calls were made for up to half an hour before the bloke copted the bat. WTF!!!!!!!!
HALF AN HOUR, the guy could be alive with a scary story to tell. I hope the police feel like twats.
I wonder what they were doing that was more important? Maybe standing on the road side point a speed gun at people to catch em 2ks over the limit? Pathetic.

Don't go to hard on Mr Plod.

When we went to the Mandurah Police station on the friday before christmas they informed us they only had 2 cars out and they were on higher priority work, 2 cars on the road for a population of 20k+ is not a good ratio.

I Don't imagine Geraldton would be much different.

To many rrsoles, not enough cops.

If anything Blame the Gov for not getting more of them out there.

Dawnie you obviously didn't read more than just the front cover hype..... if you actually read all the articles, there is info re: what the Police were doing: the police were at (as in already there) (1) a stabbing and (2) a separate violent domestic.
Bear in mind it was a complaint of aboriginal persons stealing alcohol so what would you have them do.... tell the battered wife that she is on her own cos "we're leaving to go to a stealing complaint"
Nobody could have predicted that it would result in a death.

Coppers quitting in droves, the population to Police ratio is becoming more poor and it will get worse in problem places like Gero and many Perth suburbs.
Reaping what we have sown in the political and social experiment that we call Australia.
