Drought has caused reduction in the number of dung beetles in agricultural areas (massive reduction), thus more flies have bred. You lot wanna try it on the Brand Hwy near Eneabba at midday in an easterly.... or last Sun arvo at the bushfire in 45deg inland of Cervantes (yes that was me directing traffic).
If you are in Brisbane, you also might have noticed (this may soud stupid) the increase in butterflies too!
They seem to be traveling towards the bay (I live at Mt Gravatt) and after calling someone from Viccy Point Wildlife or such, she phoned a ranger, and they believe its because of the weather, the rain and also mating season atm for them so traveling. Amazing about 2 weeks ago, they were EVERYWHERE!!!!
But flies are certainly on the increase. Some say its due to our perception and not used to many, however I somewhat doubt this. Get out side and do some mowing or gardening and they are there.
Ah Mark, I met you that Sun directing traffic. Missus and I commented that it must have been a fecking awful job standing out there in the flies but we hadn't factored in the Euros in the Wicked campers.
