Wrist support for surfing

Hi Guys, After many years of wrist pain (I had two major breaks of the scaphoid when I was younger) I am at the stage where I need to wear a splint full time to limit any painful twisting / bending movement. When I'm surfing it gets really painful duckdiving and pushing off so I'm thinking a brace in the water might be the way to go.
Has anyone come across or worn an actual waterproof wrist brace? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to get one made and fitted. They are waterproof and come with Velcro straps.
Private occupational therapy groups often linked with hand surgeons would be the go. Alternatively see your GP and get him to referr you to the OT.

Sally Fitz surfed and won whilst wearing one. No idea wear to get one though. Bento seems to be onto it

I broke my Scafoid twice also, (needed to learn to punch straight) and they are now wanting to remove it and replace with something else..Im very undecided as i still have 60% use of my wrist and surgery is never a positive option IMHO

I have some great wrist exercises that could strengthen your wrists.

They are generally done at night before bed, or if they need extra strength you can do morning exercises as well.

You can even read a magazine, or use a computer whilst doing them.

Have you considered a snowboarding or rollerblading one? Pretty much neoprene sleeve and plastic guards. I'm not sure if they would provide the support you require but may be worth considering?

I have (or at least had) lots of wrist pain when sailing too, though mine is due to arthritis. I've found that the good ol' uncool Z-Boom works an absolute treat, allowing my wrists to remain at a comfortable angle. I was lucky enough to find a brand new old stock Z-Boom a couple of years ago at a "just-get-it-out-of-my-shop" price. Truly uncool, but a truly cool solution.

Try this, used these when I skated 15 years ago. Can't move your wrists much but the support feels great.

I have a bad wrist so I have to use a blood flow stimulator (BFST) before I go to the gym or play most sports. If you used it before going surfing and you will have increased blood flow and elasticity which helps to prevent aggravating it while your using it. It will help to repair damaged tissues too to get rid of the problem for good. Rather than a splint you should use a cold compression wrap, these give support to prevent painful twists but also get swelling and inflammation down fast which is often the source of the pain. +1. I fractured the ball end of my radius just before christmas 2012. Used a snowboard wrist guard (the ribbed flax ones) and was back on the SUP in two weeks. Six weeks after it happened I was back on the surfboard (difference between pushing and pulling). Wore it for another two weeks until it felt ok to stop.

Doctor reckoned 8-10 weeks before I could even get in the surf... Hahaha
