a 4.4 metre Great White caught up in a net at Cheynes Beach WA .... the local fishermen thought it was dead so they dumped it in shallow waters where this local beachgoer went in to pose for a photo with it ... got a bit of a surprise when it "wriggled somewhat"

I'd be more impressed if he was sitting on it but no suprises given that its Cheynes and the area was probably the great whites favorite playground for over 100 years.

I wonder if fisheries would preseve it or cut it up for research?

Yeah I live down here and fish often.

It was caught yesterday in a "herring box net" apparently. From what I heard it was alive when brought in, possibly even on the forklift. Fisheries got down there and took the thing to slice and dice and look for interesting fish stuff. Pectoral to pectoral was over 2mt.

Keen on my shark fishing ( via rod and reel, catch and release ) and its a bit of a piss off that we have been threatened with big fines and legal action for even targeting them, yet something like this can happen. We have even said we will tag them ( If we can wrestle one in [}:)] ) but its still a no-no. Bronze whalers over 700mm from top fin to start of tail are illegal to target. Thats why we now have to target mako's only.

Meh, just seemes retarded that now they can kill one if its too close to a beach threatening humans, but you cant even catch one and let it go.

One time a dead whale washed up out of town that way as they often do. We were out that way boat fishing, a decided to check out the whale on the beach on the way in. Sitting in 2mt of clear sandy water staring at the whale, I was suprised that there were not any sharks around. Within 3minutes a Large pointer cruised in out of no where. Same size as the boat, we cautiously motored around it as it checked us out. Not even 5 mins later, a much larger specimen appeared and started heading our way. hmmmm time to move along we thought. And later that night is when we found out you can get really busted fishing for "mako's" next to a large dead whale when its a known fact whites are in the vicinity
