I am concerned about our cat Bob .Bob turned up one day as a kitten when our house was being renovated and the builders fed him tidbits at smoko and lunch and he moved in .Bob is not an affectinate guy but is quite affable.e basically eats food and gives little in return but is quite a caracter around the neighbourhood and is well known and drove one of our neighbours out with his demands for food .On the request of one of my daugters I set baits for the rats in our house that were keeping her awake at nigt as they scuttled around the house .There is a horrendous smell of death one week on and bob is missing .i have a horrible feeling that he ate a poisoned rat and is now also dead.Do rats that are poisoned presnt a threat to cats that eat their remains?On the upside i have been remiss in feeding him and perhaps he has found a better offer elsewhere and moved in .
the kids have been away for a week and will wonder where bob is on their return .should I go to the pound and find a similar replacement (he is a fairly common ginger cat) do you think I will get away with it?

Tell the kids that cat is dead they will get over it. I did not find out our family dog died until I was 38, my folks told me it ran away and I believed them for 33 years until the subject of Fido came up one day. There is an excellent book I read to mine little ones about 'beginnings, endings and lifetimes in between' and they understand (hopefully it will help with the impending demise of their grandfather who has terminal cancer)

thanks they already have a dog and we just got rid of another one .They will probably like the idea of a playful new kitten anyway .They'll prolly be a bit upset at first that Bob has gone but will quickly get over it .

On another note the smell is horrendouse and the back part of the house is unbearable ,Does anyone know where I can hire one of those cameras tat go on the end of a bendy pole so i can stick it up the light housing hole and have a look around to see wat is dead and then hopefully remove it

Cripes get up in the crawlspace with a torch and have a look!

Costs you nothing, you'll have a much better idea than trying to poke an expensive camera around...

Float, Have you got tiles or colourbond roofing?
Might be easier to do the old sparkies entrance through the roof insead of fumbiling around with the camera
Will air the roof space out too

Its actually the space between the ground fllor and floor above.I have had an idea .I will borrow a go pro and get it up in the ceiling space .I'll also attach it to bob and see a day in the life of bob

For the smell talk to a pest control guy, they have scented packs that you can chuck in the ceiling space and will cover the dead rat smell, they use them alll the time in my building when they cant locate the roting body, they work for a few day
