It mostly does.

Charities are immune I believe. However since I registered, a couple of years ago, I have received about 90% less kn annoying calls. Unfortunately my mother-in-law has not stopped calling.

Get a VoIP phone with an ISP provide phone number. We have no more calls from charities as our number is not with the White Pages or any other directory that we know of.

Calls are cheap too.

It does work but i think they say it takes a few weeks after you register (dont ask me why).

I used to get at least 4-5 calls per day, after i registered i got about 1 per month.

Now i have VOIP and no-one rings me.

Likewise, I used to get about 6 calls a day. Since I registered, it's dropped down to about 1 a month - and that's from a club that I'm in so is my own fault.

And you have to re-register every three years otherwise you fall off the register.
Not sure why that is but i spose they have a reason.

Registered the fixed home phone, fixed ADSL line, and 4x family mobiles (two registrations, as they only allow three numbers per family). Now we recieve virtually no marketing calls - even from the bank and others that we know have our number. Can't understand why you would choose not to register

there is no need to do so.

I have not had calls since i employed this tactic.

If I get calls I tell them that I will go and get my dad, and then leave phone off the hook until they hang up.

They dont ring back

I registered when this came out 3 odd Years ago....it took less than 2 weeks for me to get no tele marketing calls at all.

I reapplied again this year as you had to do to be covered again..but this should be for life..or they will send you and email..

All Business and home and mobile are covered.

I will still get some surveys or Red cross...but I give to them so that's ok..

Oh but if I hear a foreign voice on the phone, then I will ask them the name of the company, which I can never understand...
and ask the name of the person I am speaking too...

and then tell them they are in breach of the do not call register and they humbly apologize and back off at million miles and hour...

I went and got an answering machine just to answer these calls, and any one of the 2 people that really want to call me know to talk to the answering machine in case I am really there.

It's sad but I enjoy the fact it has cost them something to have the call answered or at least the computer directs the call to a live operator to take over at which point they realise it is an answering machine.

Sometimes when I make the mistake of actually answering the phone and it is a telemarketer I hang up if no one answers within a few seconds, which is just enough time for the computer at the other end to direct the call to an operator.

I think I need to get another sport...

I like talking to them when they call me , I will always do anything I can to change the topic of conversation by just start talking about random stuff or telling jokes - anything.....If my wife answers the phone she puts it on loud speaker and passes it to me lmao

Then I'l turn it all around by saying "hey , you sound like someone who knows a bargain! Tell you what I am currently selling a........... and if you buy that I'll buy what your selling - that sounds fair does'nt it?"

Some people get pissed when they get a telemarketer call , me I play the game and see If I can get them to hang up on me first!!!!

I used to play with telemarketers too - its good fun. Had a competition with myself to see how long I could keep them on the line for. Its amazing how long it takes some of them before they realize what is going on and that you have no intention of buying anything.

you can also try acting really interested in what they are flogging, but tell them you are also really busy at the moment. All they need to do is give you their home number and you will give them a call later to close the deal.
