Microsoft is trying to make Bing your friend too. They just paid $8billion for Skype to stop google getting it even though it has not been making a profit.

A cheap $20 digital multimeter is an even better friend. With the motor running touch the red probe to what you think is the positive terminal. Black probe to the negative. If the DMM readout has a "-" at the front then they're the other way around.

Of course, if it outputs AC (like my old Mariner did) then it don't matter and you need to feed that current through a rectifier. Your DMM should tell you that as well.

Check the prices - a friend went down that path with his old evinrude (no joke). It ended up costing him a sizeable percent of the price of a new outboard and he still ended up with an old motor. Although, I believe his was a 6hp, not a 15 so that'd probably make a sizeable difference.

I think there is an Evinrude shop in Ozy park, should be a common conversion as the Avon decent guys use them
