Why do you want to use epoxy?????
I don't think it will give you much advantage over the top of an existing polyester layer.

But yes if the polester is well and trully cured, and you've sanded it right back it should stick ok.
There is a danger when one of the resins isn't fully cured, the vapours it gives off stuffs up the setting action of the other. Not sure which way round it is, possibly both.

epoxy - why not?

just mucking around with an old board, never know where it might lead to

maybe even looking at carbon fibre or kevlar just to keep the board shark proof!!

well cost comes to mind, as well as health issues.
If you use epoxy make sure you wear gloves, if you get any on you clean it straight off, (and probably not with a chemical solvent, that might just get the stuff past your skin much faster). Once fully cured it's fairly inert, but at room temperature that can take several weeks, so watch sanding dust as well.
There's a few guys around badly sensitised to epoxy, one I know can't even get near peaches, because there's a chemical similarity with epoxy somehow.

yes well it's all good fun, and there's nothing more satisfying than going off on stuff you've built yourself.
Just don't make it too heavy.

Better finish- if you use epoxy you will have to paint over the top, poly you will get a nice glossy finish which wont brown.

Price- poly is about 1/3 the price of epoxy. Approach a friendly surfboard shaper and you might get top quality resin for cheap with hardner and wax.

Easier to work with- in the old days I always found epoxy easier to work with but now poly is and the wax makes it easy to sand.

Save the carbon and kevlar for other things personally i'd prefer mr shark swims away with a nice chewy lump of kiteboard in his mouth than a nice chewy lump of my leg If anything carbon will probably delaminate quicker due to the soft foam.

kevlar $50 per m - might leave that for now!
no carbon around as being all used up on aeroplane wings and bike frames - no good for board anyway poor compressive qualities

lightness is the goal hence the epoxy choice

occupational allergies part of my speciality so i'll keep my hands out of the mixing bowl

thanks for the advice
