Hay seabreeze brains trust !When i grew up my folks didnt have alot of money For my first birthday My father built me and my brother a trainset. i acquired them again when the parents sold one of there properties. The trains sets were in really average condition and i have been stripping and sanding them to hopefully repaint. I would like to wrap them up as a gift refurbished and give them to my 1yr old son as a gift from my father this up-in comming christmas.
My question is
1)How far do they need to be sanded back can they be primered in this state( the black stuff is like a mill scale) I tried to sand blast them, ma compressor isnt powerful I been using paint stripper a angle grinder drill with wire brush and dremmel.
2) what paint would be better or sufficient (2pack or arcrylic) Would they hot dip galvanize it and then spray over that?
3) Which primer (theres alot of primers around like etch, super etch arcrylic primer)
4) To get into the cabins would it be better air brushing light coats or using a gun (used a gun before no probs)or just aerosol. ?
Theres about 15 carriages a house and a station Any Imput would be much appreciated!
