Most of the nerds probably already use/know this but i was surprised at how many people don't know about the on screen keyboard..it certainly won't stop someone who is determined to hack your passwords but it does slow them down a bit and avoids key stroke loggers.
Useful at this time of year when you are plugging your credit card details in willy nilly buying stuff and paying bills, logging into bank accounts etc.
Just go to start and then run and type in OSK in the box and enter, it will appear on the screen ,use it to enter the relevant details...
Cheers (my Xmas good deed done )

To be honest cyber thief's couldn't give a **IT about end users accounts, etc... we go directly to the DB's.

Your details (address, CC, banks, etc) sell for ~$0.40.

Every single Australian bank has been hacked, except I haven't heard anything about ANZ (I don't bank with them).

If your worried about keyloggers, Notepad > Press Keys > Copy/Paste characters
Where that password field get sent probably has a compromised certificate > so somebody could be in the middle.

So moral of the story > nobody cares > banks lose billions a year, but since they're stealing many more billions from you anyway the party goes on.

Paying by card in person? Camera sees everything

And yet I read my card number out over the phone to complete strangers all the time, give my card to complete strangers in restaurants and shops, etc. etc.

Flysurfer is right, the banks create trust in the system by honouring any stolen money/cards. They still make money overall.

...I'm more tempted to go and buy stuff and then say the card was stolen.

That will go on your credit file (both Veda and Dun & Brad something), insurance companies will have access to it.

Online shopping assuming the retailer doesn't store plain CC information is much safer than B&M shops, restaurants... in the old days you could just download their whole DB... now days the data is encrypted so even if you get your hands on it you still need to figure out which cipher and then you need the key... too hard > move to next target.

My small, online Xmas tip is:

Setup a U.S. (whatever happened to the A.?) account in iTunes. Now albums are $10 instead of $17.
Worth buying for $10 when they include a lossless format, coming soon.

I can't think of a way around that, nor FlySurfer's point.

Weakest link. I just like thinking about it. I actually work in IT and some of the holes are massive. But to be honest getting the money is the easy bit, the next part in inadvisably dangerous.

To be honest there's nothing I need anyway. Best things in life are still free; a good parking spot, good weather, the beach, a child's laughter , an error in your bill that gives you credit, a pretty girl that walks by, grabbing a stranger by the arm before they walk into the path of a car they didn't see... the little things.

... i go on (coffee).

Some of the holes are massive. It's not uncommon in large organisations for reconciliation to be out by millions, for months. Take for example the guy that ripped of Uni of South Australia off $20m or so. He bought houses on the beach and a fricken' basketball team before anybody noticed. He wasn't even trying to hide it.

But yeah, let's say you've taken $20m. What now?
**** that.

(that was a good coffee)

My other small xmas tip is: pay cash as much as possible. it beats any credit card points.

Cash used in the right way, can also get you massive discounts, I always ask for "mates rates", And usually get it by paying in cash
(saved a absolute fortune,)
plus no one gets my card details, even better
Top keyboard tip,+1 will try it next bill

I hope you've changed your host file or using Utorrent's IP filter or installed an IP blocker... or your about as clever as somebody borrowing CD's from JB and then leaving their business card in place.

The record and movie business are still going through their very, very long list... and our freetrade agreement with US gave them the right to come after you's http://www.dfat.gov.au/fta/ausfta/outcomes/08_intellectual_property.html

Flysurfer,
so do you download by binary or not at all ? Just asking ?

Cash hell yes. Banks awful. 2 years ago i had thousands taken by a bank errror to someone unknown, it was the banks poor account access that granted someone else access to my account. Took 3 months to fix, 4 new cards, ombudmans the lot. Massive pain in the ass. Try Dec,Jan,Feb& half of march with no access to your money. Hilarious.

PeerBlocker should suffice... but in reality there's no way to hide yourself. you could bounce the packets around with remote proxies; eg Tor hacks, but performance is a joke and Tor user don't appreciate it.
Or route everything through a VPN...$$
Fetch.io
...
..
.
Also you should have multiple accounts; setup monthly payments to spread your money around... mind you most of my moneys with NAB cos UBank's 6.11% is too tempting.
