Hi, I've just started surfing and i'm stuggling a bit to stand up, maybe I should practice more and figure it out but I though some advice from someone experienced could help...
I'm approximately 82kgs and i've got a 6'5" so I think it should be a good size, more of a timing problem. do you actually stand up as the waves picks u up or do you have to get enough speed first?
I could stand up on a big long board pushed by the white water after the wave, but on my 6'5" the best i've done was getting on my knees before getting barrelled!!!

Yeah that board is pretty small to learn on. Very unstable. You need to go straight to your feet. Don't go prone , knee, & up. Go prone to your feet. Practice on the floor. Prone & jump to your feet. Then when surfing the board kinda drops away underneath as you get up.
Paddle hard also.

Where are you surfing ?

yeah, agree with the last 2 posts. There's a lot of difference between picking up a wave in the white water on a long board to catching an unbroken wave on a short board, if you can use an inbetween board for a while that would help. catching an unbroken wave needs a lot of judgment, being able to paddle faster makes it less critical, the take off isn't quite as late, and you have more time to jump to your feet.

From 0800 till 1030hrs sunday morn

Nice long lefts

"Handicap" type swims back ie a bloody long paddle although not getting dumped on

Waves consistently barreling and then giving some good walls to work with.

All this with 4 people including yours smuggly (or ugly) in the water.

Thats 2 weekends in a row when I've had this and everywhere else looks like a metro break.

I don't know if the body can handle this to often all this catching waves and paddling back out is bloody hard work

Ahhh it's a hard life in paradise

Thanks for the advice guys, looks like I need a bigger board then! I'll still be trying with my 6'5", jumping on my feet.
Deano, I usually go to trigg point or scarbs...

By the way if anyone is selling a mast or boom I may be interested. cheers.

Triggs or Scabs, might be part of the problem too, they can both break late on shallow sandbanks, doesn't give you much time to get up.
You'd probably be better off on a less hollow wave to start with, find a nice soft reef break somewhere.
