is there any tafe cources that people did to get into an aprenticeship, with mining, or the industrial side of electrical, such as the electrical fitters with woodside, i am not enjoying school a whole lot and i have been thinking if i go to tafe and do a coarce wich is more in the direction of what i am wanting to do it may increase my chances, becuase instead of getting **** grades at school, if i enjoy the coarce at tafe, i will hopfully get quite good grdes, and actually be botherd to learn a few things,

i would also like to know if any one has regreted dropping out of highschool, and going to tafe. and if so why and was their a particular reson for wanting to drop out, and go to tafe,
forgive my spelling, as you can see i am just passing english on 52%

Why aren't you enjoying school, there is always the option to do senior combined year later on.

Give EGT a ring, Electrical Group Training.
They will send you off to do some sort of test which will determine whether you are capable of completing an Electrical apprenticeship.

Jordo,

Don't know what they are referred to these days, look for pre-apprenticeship pro-voc or something along those lines. Go to the TAFE website and look at the list of courses available in the trades section. Hell you could go as far as booking an information type meeting with someone at the TAFE, or go into admin at the nearest TAFE and ask for the list of courses that are likely to be on offer for 2008.

I did what was called a Pre-apprenticeship at the time, it's about 24 hours a week. With all different age groups on the course. It's not only good for learning and preparing yourself for a trade, but also gives you more of a stepping stone from school life to working life.
It's mid road between teenage talk and that of the older more mature person.

The only issue is that the courses are run during calendar year and would be nearly halfway through by now. Maybe wait and see how your traveling September time at school, good grades could land you a job when the apprenticeships come up in the paper. If not and school still sucks then enroll with TAFE

PS can always email the tafe they will send out an attachment I'd imagine with todays technology

Jords dude... to get into the electrical field you need to do an apprenticeship. There is no way around it. To increase your chances of an electrical apprenticeship do a pre-apprenticeship at TAFE. But as mentioned already its run on a calander year. Although... you may be able to get in for semester two? Then pick up the first semester next year? Im not sure, you will have to contact the campus.
All this chit chat and talk about what you want to do is just getting you nowhere Jords.
Contact EGT as Grumps has said a number of times. I did my last 1 1/2 years of my apprenticeship with them and they sent me to the gas plant on the north west shelf because I expressed interest in getting industrial experience. I am 30 and have only been out of my time for 3 years and wish wish wish I did it at your age.
You know what you want to do so go and do it! Continue to go to school and look for an appenticeship. Then when you get one, leave school. Dont just drop out of school with nothing to go to as this will make you lazy and you will get bored and probably end up pushing trollys at your local supermarket. You are just waisting every day you put it off. The sooner you get it done the sooner you will be making big dollars. By the time you are 21 you could be working in Kununarra on $166,000.

Well today I am taking the first step and I am going to ring egt, try to get more info, age what you get at the end of doing it, etc. and I’m hoping it all turns out well. I am also going to talk to the contacts that my dad has, see if they can offer any advice for me, or any thing inbetween, so I have my fingers crossed and am looking forward to it. Well this is if it goes to plan, which things never do unfortunately.

Hey Jords,

Just something for ya to think about aswell, Linespeople are in real short supply at the moment (the guys that maintain/improve all the power network) and with a bit of OT my guys are pulling in 6 figures. With the ageing network aswell theres always going to be positions both here in the west and some decent cash over east. Plus you got the bonus of hitting the water pretty much every day after knock off
