is there anyone doing alloy welding , i need a water pump housing welded a small hole ,not looking for a freebie just looking for someone in the perth area. any info would be very helpful

whats the material of the housing? Stainless or alluminium?

Ahh , I see. Thier cast rubbish and dont weld too well at all. Is the hole caused from corrosion? If so welding would only blow the hole bigger and not penetrate at all. You could just try it with the MIG but I doubt it would last very long.
My advice would be to hunt wreckers or if not hit up toyota. Surely there has to be something around if its a Toyota?
If still no go give me a PM and I'll machine something up

thanks for the replys . its a timing case cover that has the water pump bolted to it . its not leaking but the water jacket that goes to the block has corrosion and it is only a matter of time before it starts leaking . i am reboring and rebuilding the motor as i do a lot of miles in the bush and want to fix any problem before it shows up . . the alloy is not thin that has to be welded . thanks for the offer kearnsy but theres nothing to machine just need a some ally welding

only a six pack . i would thought at least a carton and $ cash$ , but your on holidays . i guess i will have to do it the old fashion way and have a look in the phone book for someone interested in $100 for 5 minutes work . these windy days really make it hard for those of us who work to get any thing done ....

Dunno about araldite - it soften considerably at 80deg ish and fails completely at 100 - 120 (?)

ou could try some of the "Devcon" products I have seen them hold up in some pretty agressive enviroments.I've just used some a few weeks ago (liquid ali) to reclaim an old bus waterpump manifold along its sealing face gave it a quick skim on the mill and seems to be holding up,the owner of the bus has a few more old Perth "MTT"buses and has used it on them with good results.Still would source a replacement for long term peice of mind.


Devcon is good but once applies from a welders point of view will create slag inclusions and unwanted porosity.This unwanted deposit will make it virtually impossible to weld.
DEvcon is good for non ferretic cast metal.
Dont use devcon on ferretic metal.
(metal which has iron in it.)
