I have just done the rounds of all the shops to get an idea of the 05 kites on offer and I'm now totally confused. I have also noted whats flying at Cots and what looks good in the air and seems to perform. Of note in sizes 10 - 14 have been the 05 Rhino, CO2 and Fuels.
I didn't see any Matrix kites.

I am 110kg 3 season rider of av ability and looking to buy an 05 kite of sizes 10 and 14. I need good loft and glide and good wave riding. Can anyone give any comparisons of the 4 kites above and pro's of why one may be better than the others. I am a country kiter with limited exposure to shops etc so any advise from you metro riders will be appreciated.

Any reason why the Matrix is not popular in Perth?

Thanks

PROB MAIN REASON IS NO-ONE PUSHES WIPIKA. ONLY PERSON 2 PEOPLE I KNOW RIDIN WIPIKA IN TOWN ARE ROB WITH THE WIP's AND BONNIE WITH THE NEW MODEL MATRIX. THEY LOOK GOOD...

HAV A LOOK AT THE LIQUID FORCE SPECTRUM 11's, EVERYONE SEEMS HAPPY AS WITH THEM. SPEAK TO JASON OR JUST LOOK AT LF's WEBSITE.

SLINGSHOT ARE ANOTHER GOOD OPTION.

U WILL FIND AROUND PERTH PEOPLE MAINLY RIDE WHAT THE SHOP NEAREST THEM IS PUSHING OR WHAT THE RIPPERS ARE RIDING, HENCE THE REASON FOR SPONSORSHIPS.
AT 110kg U WILL WANT SOMETHIN GRUNTY AND A PRETTY SOLID CANOPY THAT WILL NOT DISTORT. U LOOK AT A LOT OF BIG GUYS RIDING THE OLDER MODEL KITES AND THEY JUMP AND THEIR KITE DISTORTS ALL OVER THE PLACE DUE TO THEIR WEIGHT.

Longy

I have just upgraded from an 03 CO2 12m to a 05 Fuel 13m.
I get bigger hang time and the kite flys very smooth and predictable through the air. The one pump feature is in a word, fantastic ,the new style bag takes a bit of getting used to packing the kite up, but is growing on me. Takes up less room in the car and has a few handy pockets in it. The bar set up is simple and with the Surefire system and the full spinning lease is very safe and simple as well. I have been kiting for 3 seasons (87kg) and Im on my third kite, so thats my 2 cents worth

I intend to get the 17m SS Fuel to upgrade my 16m in the new future. As I do really like this kite. I hope this helps a little.

Cheers

You should also drop in and check out the Airush Flows of 05. Plenty of riders loving em. They fit exactly your description. Better variety of kites at Scarbs rather than Cott too.

The Matrix was a good kite last year but they have fallen very much out of fashion with the only area still with good numbers being Noosa and possibly Yorkeys in Cairns.

Hope this helped

LF Spectrums are good solid kites

Flexifoil Storm 3 are cutting edge

Rhino 5 are super quick and grunty

Look out for the BEST Nemesis 2 coming soon.

I might as well join in too, nah just kidding. I hate this posting stuff.

Guys if you want a good kite, try it first. This is the only way you can be sure to get through the bulls;;t that sometimes is posted...
There are a lots of good kites on the market, but they wont all suit you.

Go down the river, or ocean and see how they fly, but make sure you go to different spots, some tend to be a little crowded with the one type of kite.

Do your research, it will pay off in the end instead of being talked into something that wont suit or is really cheap/expensive.

My advice is go for any new 05 kite 9m kite for all 20knot plus seabreeze days. I use my new R5 Rhino 9 in 20knots plus. I use R5 Rhino 12m for 15knot to 20knots on a 142 x 40 FLX. I weigh 100kg's. My new r5 Rhinos have blown my mind. But as all the others kiters are saying, Ive only hear good thinks about all of the O5 kites so far. I reckon 05 is the year of great kites, safe kites, lots of depower, good control when depowered. Kited with Andy from SoS last night at Cott and he was blasting on a new 9m RRD. I saw a new 7m Slingshot out and that looked hot. Adam Rat on his 10m Torch is scary, and the Slingshot dudes at Scabs are ripping, not to mention the wicked kite loops and wave handle passes being pulled by on a new 9m Airrush reactor. AS other have said try all the kites you can, they alll feel different, get the one that does it for you.

Hi Longy
As you can see everyone has thier favourites .

I ride the Airush flows and love them , I ride at Scarbs and and focus mainly on trying to ride the waves .

I recently bought the 05 models but am finding that I am not using my 14 because I have started going out on surfboards and I feel I would be better off with the 12 .

If you are interested I will be selling this kite for $1200 complete with bar and lines , pump and bag .This kite has only been used about 6 times

Call me on 040 911 7131 if you want to try it out .

Thanks heaps for all the feedback. Trying different kites is definately the best way to find out what suits but in a country town where both kiters have the same kites, well,it's a bit hard to try different kites so your feedback is a good help.

Weight is also a big factor, my mate is only 75kg and I am always using 2 kite sizes bigger on the same brand, 04 Fuels, and just cant get the same loft as my mate and it is not technique just that the kites do fly very diferently with size and weight and that is why I am very interested in hearing from kiters >95kg on kite/board combinations that really work.
