hi guys could any one out there please , please , please give me the correct information regarding the nose line tension on my 07 rhino, i am using an 08 bar, the specs for all the pigtails and nose lines are correct, i beleive though that the nose line is being pulled too tight it just looks wrong to me, i understand that it should be under tension but surely not all the time, when im standing underneath the kite stationary with the bar pulled fully in should it be slack or taught? i thought that when your sheeted in it should be tight and when sheeted out it should be slack ? but of course i could be wrong, what im looking for is a definitive answer, hard i know buy if you get my drift if i were to lengthen the nose line how do i know whats right or wrong, any info would be much appreciated.

It should be just tight when you pull the bar all the way in, or if it has a bungee in the 5th line, the bungee should be just on full stretch.
On some kites you can pull on some more tension once the kite is under load and moving, especially all the kites that have a below the bar cleat or tensioning system for the 5th, like the Fuels, and the Torchs, etc.

If its tight all the time you will be losing some power and the kite will feel weird and "slidey" when you turn it.

What Steve says is right for all the North 5th line C kites, for the 07 rhino it should be tight all the time. Do a check that you've got the right noseline length, apparently they sometimes come incorrect.

Yes what Phezulu said is correct.

If you have a look at the line set up for 07 Rhino, you will notice that center line has a knob in the middle restricting the front side lines traveling further. Therefore the center line below the knob is always in tension (ideally the line above the knob should be in tension too) and it keeps LE the same shape all time - this allows gradual power delivery rather than on/off feels.

5th line for other kites works differently and they are mostly set up to run free in either direction. It is only effective when fully sheeted in, this prevents kite bending too much - keeps in shape and gets stable pull when it is in full power.

The factory set up should be OK but it is recommended to check the Y-bridle length with the North dealer as it will determine the true potential of Rhino!

G'day,

Kite Clone is right. My Rhino 07 16m front nose line stretched a few cm and it screwed up the upwind ability of the kite. It is always under tention so the potential for stretching is high. I think it is important to check it once in a while just incase. I really disliked the kite with the longer 5th line so I regularlly check it now.

cheers,

Robert.
