I rode the 2006 - its a nice smooth board - work well in waves if you put big fins on it,,,,,
why dont you get straight on a sufboard if you are doing downwinders =
go and talk to Ryland blakeny - he rides at Scarboroigh evey day on Slingshot revs - you wont miss him - he is very helpful and will point you in the right direction for surf/
or private message him he is on this site
size = go the 126 on the mis fit for your weight

no straps needed but your likely to put indents of your feet into the board, well thats what i did just from jump starting onto it. really i cbf trying to get good on a surfboard but your probably going to have a big head start anyway.

re straps
-
if you go out when its not nuking and not too big you;ll do ok

try and watch some footage of ben wilson or go and watch ryland ride at scarbs

- the key to riding without straps is to have "soft knees'and suck up allthe bumps by absorbing them with your knees

it can be a bit frustrating to start with but its do able

get someone to coach you

cheers B

Tried using my surfboard today, and it was great. got up straight away and it felt really good in the chop. it wasnt the greatest conditions but the board felt really good. brucex ur totally right, u really have to let ur knees go with the board and to get the board going nicely i tended to stand further up the board. fun sesh. cheers for the advice.

don't forget to spread you toes.....

I stuck a deck pad on the front of my board as the wax was dissapearing mid session, means i can't surf on it anymore(unless i point my head at the sky when lying in it) but makes for a more comfy and even feel when kiting.
