To anybody considering to buy a Cabrinha bow (2006-2007) kite, don't.

I am sorry for the guys selling them but they seem to be a bit soft, I don't know what they were like when new but I think after a year or so they tend to weaken.

The leading edge stitching starts to seperate about 2 foot off either side of the centre strut (near the "c" for cabrinha) and the canopy rips and keeps on ripping until it hits the LE and TE (so called rip-stop).

I like the kites, they fly nicely and the bar setup is nice with the punch out feature.
The 2008 model look a whole lot tuffer and even Cabrinha publicises that fact.

So if You are buying an older model Cab, pump it up before and check all the seams before.

Once again sorry to the guys that are trying to sell them but I am p*ss off that I have spent about $500 on just repairs. My 2002 Naish X2 was tougher 5 years on than my 1 year old Cab XBow 2.

Cheers

All kites wear out. Depends much more on how it was treated before you got it. Sounds like you may have bought a kite from an over inflator.

I did hear the other day that there were some probs with some of the crossbow and switchblade 2's. Something to do with the UV protection...don't know if anyone has more information - something like a dud batch.

I have 2 switchblade 2's and they are both bulletproof.

i`ve had a xbow 2 for a year now and have used it hard and have had no probs at all.
i have heard that the switch blade 2 has had a few probs like yours.i`ve met 2 blokes with tears in the same spot and shape at dolls in syd right along the second to middle strut. but thats 2 out of hundreds.
i understand your anger ,if you spend that much money on a kite and it breaks with no falt of your own then the powers that be need to sort it out for there own reputation.
cheers hope you sort something out. maybe write a letter to cabrinha?

The SB2 kites that ripped at Dolls were both immediately replaced with new kites.
There was a small percentage of kites that had a warranty issue, and all my customers kites were replaced without question, quickly.

The person who started the thread may have purchased a used kite that was overinflated as was pointed out by someone else, the kite may have had a small cut that became bigger as the kite was inflated. If the kite in question was purchased new go see your dealer.

The kite was bought second hand.

The seperation / ladder of the seams I have noticed are on the XBow's, maybe due to them inverting easier than the SB's.But I have seen other makes of kites leading edges getting pumped up super hard in comparison to the average Xbow without any noticeable issues.

The other thing that I have noticed is that the kites that are tearing easier are the blue Xbow's 1 & 2, maybe the material is a bit more prone to sun damage due to the darker colour.

Or just maybe mine has been well used, it looked clean and crisp when I bought it or just one of those duds.

Anyway I will never buy another Cabrinha again due to the issues I have had, it's to much of a gamble even though I like their kite design concepts.

"The kite was bought second hand".
Obviously Cabrinha's fault.

Being second hand does not been that it is void of quality issues but maybe those quality issues are a bit more apparent.

The material used may be the same type of the other manufacturers but may be of a lighter grade, you do get different weights of material per square meter. The thread may deteriate a bit quicker or the stitch patern may cause the canopy to rip much the same as toilet paper - all these things play a part.

At the beginning of the post I did say that I had a 2002 Naish X2 that was 5 years old and had gone throught the wars- I had learnt on it and so did my brother inlaw, the canopy had puncture wholes from sharp sticks - it never tore!

At the beginning of the post I should not have generalized my issue with the kite but my idea was to get feedbaack from it, which worked as most of the replies were all positive about the Cabrinha kites.

It still doesnt change my mind about buying another Cabrinha much like somebody not wanting to buy the same make of car they previously had problems with but it does install a bit of faith with the kite I have now.

I am just p*ssed I could not kite and may not be able to kite until it is repaired.

Cheers
