the new "09 REV" looks to be a bit more wakestyle friendly. (options to slow down and change bar pressure) 08 REV was just to fast for wakestyle. But with a lot of time put into "fine tuning" the kite is perfect!

the site lists the new fuel bar as a 4 line system. does that mean the 5th line is optional?

Yes the Fuel only comes four line. 5th line is extra.

lol ^^
Go back to kite-school, Stamp.
Slingers have finally seen the light, they've binned the 5th line for good.
It's that extra leg on the chair, you don't really need it, hey ?
It just gets in the way.
I never did 'get' the 5th line concept.
Probably ok in the snow.
Not much snow here in Western Australia.
Some kites fly the 5th in tension.....
which means the kite is ok for the high-end, but crap for the bottom-end.
Other kites fly the 5th in slackness...
which is only useful as a relaunch yank device or as a flagging line.
But you can use any line for flagging.
Slingshot is saving money now on all that string.

Yep. ^^

Five reasons why 5th lines are fingered:

1. They chaff on bar-stuff and snap.
2. They bow-tie kites.
3. They create wind drag.
4. They cause tangle-fests in and out of the water.
5. They rip kites into little pieces in the surf.

Sorry.

Don't be sorry. It makes sense to me, and having a 2 year gap in my kiting (ie 5 lines were the latest thing when I left Perth) I wanna know what to go for and what not to.

What you say makum heapum good sense Slave. Cheers.

Why do Slingshot kites have this stupid false reputation for high build-strength ??
I believe 'bomber' construction is the stock standard magazine term.
The split-strut construction method is an abomination in kite design.....
a repair headache when they go BANG !

Go with the Rev for 4 line simplicity and effortless relaunch.

5th line on a fuel is releaseable, if the kite bowties you can ditch the 5th. it is also cleatable so you can use it to trim the kite or spill some power. and it is the best way to relaunch a C-kite when riding boots.

I believe they call this set-up an 'active' 5th line. ^^
Some kiting terms crack me up.
Yet another thing to jerk around, to adjust, to flap in the breeze, to chaff in the clam-cleat.
More gizmos to grapple with.
But I reckon you might need to ditch the boots.
Those backless bindings look very sexy, Stamp.
lol.

I have just spent the last 3 hours riding a REV 2 13m in a good 20 knots.

All my opinion so take it or leave it......

Firstly the bar has been improved, the center hole is larger to prevent CL wear and the stainless seems to be better quality than the 08 bar. The bar grip is has also been improved.

As you are probably aware the kite has the option to increase bar pressure and reduce turning speed for those who like to unhook. The rear setting (as it came shipped) seemed very similar to the 08, that is, very quick to turn and light bar pressure. After a decent ride I came in and changed to the middle setting and what a completely different feel. Bar pressure increased to what I believe to be similar to the Fuel, and required a lot more bar input to turn. However, what I liked most that when unhooking, the kite sat at 45 and did not want to move around, very stable.

The kite itself felt very similar to the 08 but I was riding reasonably powered, I am really interested in trying it in the 12 to 15 knot range to see if the are any noticeable changes such as bottom end as I have heard that it has improved in this area. Top end seemed to be about the same.

Again, my opinion, but anyone who was considering staying on or returning to a C kite have a demo on the Rev2 and experiment with the rear attachments as I believe it really has a C feel to it when on the middle setting. I didn't try the inner most setting as the kite felt great at the middle setting and I personally wouldn't want any more bar pressure.

Cheers

Thanks for the reveiw Capt,

The Rev 2 sounds sick! your lucky to have treid one so soon there are heaps of crew down south lining up and praying for wind to give these new bad boy's a go.

How much do you weight?

13m Rev in 20knts thats a bit of an over kill yer?

I found the 11m more than enough it 20knts

Unhooked, 13m Rev, 20knts too much for me! I know they breed em tough up in FNQ,good work!

My greatest worry here is not the kite or your ability. My worry is that i will be up there on Sunday and im worried that your 20knts may not be same as our 20knts.

if its really 20knts ill be on the 9m Rev

See ya soon

Hi Luke

Our 20 knots is not the same as the southern states that is for sure, our wind being warmer, is not as dense and doesn't really pack as much punch.

I weigh around 93kgs and I should have been on an 11m today but honestly with my weight and our wind conditions an 11m would not see much action up here, hence I only ride a 13m. The past couple of weeks have been around 15 to 20 knots on the beach with the odd day up near 25 in the gusts. There have been days when we just boost as it is to strong to unhook etc, however, these days are few and far between and doesn't warrant a 11m for me. The current forecast is 20 to 30 knots and you would get this up north near Cooktown as well as out on our local reefs (green Island etc) but we rarely get much over 20 knots at Yorkies, most of our wind is in the 15 to 20 knot range.

Still, I had to have a go at unhooking as I was really impressed how well the Rev2 on the middle setting just sat there. I depowered as much as possible on the cleat before attempting just a couple of Raley's in the flat water.

The other locals that ride Revs are all on 11m (I just have to lose some weight!!) and you should be fine. The forecast is looking good and hopefully you get some great riding in. Make sure if you call into Yorkies say G'day to the fat lad on the 13m Rev

Cheers

Cool captin sounds like the 13m is the kite of choice for your conditions.
