I intend to teach my younger sister to kitesurf and am not sure on suitable kite/board selection for someone who weighs a massive 50kg...

My smallest kite is an 05 naish boxer 9m which I think would be fine in 13-20 knots for someone of this weight. probably need a 6-7m in wind 20-25 knots though....

Furthermore board selection ? Any ideas - something like a 135cm airush switch or similar!

while she is still learning, dont let her out in 20+ Your 9m will be fine for her and the 135 board would be the shortest to begin with.... good luck..... just remember to teach her the basic safety stuff first!! more time on the kite before going for the board the better off she will be....

Hi I am 56kg and currently have a 9m crossbow as my main kite. When I learnt on C kites the 8m C02 was quite a lot to handle after about 18 knots. If you can start her on a trainer so she gets the feel of flying before putting her on the 9m and keep the winds light until she feels comfortable.

A 135 board would be a good size, people may say to go bigger but from experience bigger can be hard for someone small to carry back up the beach and control the kite.

Hawaii you're right on the ball. I'm 53 kgs (172 cm) and I ride a 10m Cab ele (12 m range with gr8 depower) and a Cab labrat 140 board. I ride this in 15-20 knots, just over 23 gusting.

I have a 6.5m Cab CO2 I ride in 22-28 knots (gusting just up to 33 knots) with my 140 board. Naturally with a smaller board (130 even) I could handle it in slightly more wind even.

The 9m sounds perfect up to 17ish knots for starting off, and once she can hold it, she'll have ur kite and you won't be out there! [}:)]

Goodwinds and best of luck to your lil sis
