Less high wind days so less wind surfing time on the water = more time for taking pictures

Kiters need less wind so they spend more time on the water = less time to take pictures

That could be true

The other potential reason (without trying to sound/pissoff kiters) is that many of your tricks look the same in a photo from the shore (some type of loft - so a pic of a kite with a kiter under it somewhere), whereas in windsurfing tricks look a bit different from the shore, with us poleys not just somewhere under our rigs

This is referred as "dangling" by us

Hope I didn't offend, just inform

Either that or we have more/better cameras/photogs

Not overly trying to stir, but i just went on a google-rampage to actually find out what windsurfers call tricks and couldn't really find much other than THIS LIST (http://www.windsurfing-academy.com/progressive_windsurfing/tricks_moves/move_descriptions/tricks/) of moves which all sound rather the same to me (and quite dull).

Cowboy:
Backwind the sail on a beam reach then turn your back to the sail and cause the the sail to wrap around you body by pulling the boom.
Body Drag: Standard: Jump off the board and drag your feet.
Body Drag: Clew 1st: Rotate sail to clew 1st and then body drag.
Body Drag: 1-Hand: Stay hooked in, Body drag and then let go of front hand.
Body Drag: 0-Hand: Stay hooked in, let go of both hands during drag.
Sail Throw: Standard: Throwing the sail toward the nose of the board by releasing both hands (while on the beem reach) and letting the apparent wind push the sail back to you.
Sail Throw: Boomerang: A sail throw while performing a jibe.
Fin-1st: Spin board around 180 and sail fin 1st.
Contrarian: Sailing switch stance and back to the sail.
Backwinding: Sailing on the leeward side of the sail.
Backward: Sailing on the leeward side of the sail and back to sail.
Teletubby: A switch stance sail throw followed by a body pirouette. The sail will spin 360 degrees while the body rotates 360 degrees in the opposite direction.

I know there's the back flip and forward flip and i've seen them in pro-footage, but other that than i've never seen a windsurfer do anything that remotely resembled a trick at any of my local beaches around Port Phillip Bay.

Can you point the windsurfing ignorant amongst us (most of us kiters to be honest...) to a website with a list of tricks that i might actually see out on the water? This might aid me in identifying what is and isn't a trick instead of just thinking that the old 'headbutt the sail and fall off' is the best move i've seen. Is there a generic first move that most windsurfers aim for, like the 'teabag' in kitesurfing's case?

instead of a ANOTHER general slagoff/friendly banter post between sailors and kiters, I think it would be interesting to hear from bonafide accomplished persons who can sailboard and kite and get their opinion on the level of skill required for both sports.

It a tomaaato/tomato thing. Whether you prefer to kite or sail, its personal preference.

However as a novice sailor who is keen to try kiting as well, the tricks performed on sailboards seem far more dynamic, not due to what they do with the boards in a trick on its own but moreso how they have to rig flip/manouvre as well.

Any experienced people out there who can competently sail and kite would probably be worth listening to.

Tons of windsurfing tricks. Helicopter tack, sail spins, rail rides, 360s. They were tricks invented about 40 years ago.

Pole dancers
1.Well established, cashed up, Camera gear standard usually superior
2.Not busy close in shore showing off to ones less fortunate mates, who dont own a camera, let alone a tray
3.Usually have a life partner, so no need to throw tricks to impress anybody
4. No need to stand over 100 meters away due to grave concern for life with an out of control kiter

Tea Baggers
1. spend most of session looking up, thus photo's glare from underside of chin ruins photo
2. Usually on a tight budget so camera quality less likely be any good for over 100 meter shots.
3.Spend too much time looking for lost board after a crash, so restricted photo opportunity
4 Not cashed up enough to replace lost boards on a regular basis(see lost and found) so less photo opportunity, as TOW reduced
5. Most tricks are lofted, and there is only so much one can do with a photo of the underside of a tray and the kiters coit, to be of any quality
Now hang on a second Flame suit on go for it

hey Koma, they are oldschool light wind (ie: before even you fellas hit the water) or 'sailboarding' moves, not really windsurfing moves of current usage (apart from body drags and some people doing oldschool moves)

Here is some links to vids and tips on ws moves

www.continentseven.com/moves.php

roynbartholdi.com/ws_move_flips.htm

I'm not saying its harder or not to ws or kite, just what it looks like in a photo from a distance (maybe my observation is flawed by lack of information but), but to the general observer it may look like this)

No doubt many of yours tricks are hard, but kiters would appreciate a hard move maybe more then a photo of it would give an idea of skill to the observer

Btw, I can't really do any tricks, but do look at alot of trick photos (one day!)

So not slagging anyone, just trying to make an observation about how photos capture things

Most Kite boarders would have to borrow their dad's car to get to the beach, borrowing dad's camera might be pushing it.

Dism do you secretly yern to be a kitesurfer? Why the hell are you bothering in us in the kitesurfing forums with your 'windsurfing is so much better'

Why is it that half of us here come from windsurfing, only never to go back due to the lack of freedom, air, speed, and manouverability that a windsurfer offers. Dont you get it? Windsuring is oldschool mate. All these needs can now be achieved with a kite, half the price, and one tenth the garage space.

Our forums are quiet, just seeing what the wind is doing over here

Read: Opposite of User/Waveslaves missions over to Windsurferland, minus the actual bad intent

Plus was having a proper conversation, till I decided to be silly and post my last comment to stir ya's, and you bit like the proverbial hungry sharks

Mission: Complete?

As soon as you're all looking up at your kites (takes ages sometimes) we stop playing dumb and start doing stuff like this:

And we all listen to that music and are growing the same hairstyles.

There really must be bugger all wind in Aus at the moment... The Poleys are invading the kite forums! Not that I mind but posting videos of poleys doing flicky spinnys to soft rock is as interesting to me as kiters doing flicky spinnys... {yawn}

Board offs, massive air, Generals and Rodeos to Van Halen, that's what I'm talking about!

i have never seen a dirty dancer do any tricks like those ones. where i kite all they do is little sailing tacks. looks pretty sh!t and boring to me to tell you the truth.

and when you go to the beach, majority of kiters can boost and do mooore than tacking.

windsailing=gay

I think I am just about at my whits end with these forums (not just this particular post btw). So many windsurfers talking up how good their sport is and how dangerous kitesurfing is. the majority of whom are groselly under educated on the matter of kiting and dont take the time to appreciate the merits of the sport.

While the kitesurfers look upon windsurfing with disdain, casting it off as an archaic pastime with too many hassles and too little gratification, while completely missing the point, not realising the joy a windsurfer feels from their level of acheivment within what is a very technical and challenging occupation.

for goodness sakes, stop trolling, get over yourselves enjoy your sport for what is and if you want to cast paltry comments upon one another make sure your doing so from and educated angle.

Sandman, over and out...

Why does it have to be about who has the best tricks?

To me, windsurfing = sailing.

Somehow people that sail yachts manage to enjoy it without pulling airs and flick-spinny things.

Consider that for a moment.
