has anyone tried using the 5th line setups on the "normally 4 line" kites? what was the resault , and did you think your kite was lacking anything before you installed the 5th line, or are you just accepting what it has done to your kite as feeling different?

also is it much different to water relaunch ?

yeah i have the wipika cls on a 16.5 matrix. It is an awesome feature for relaunching but even more so for depowering the kite when overpowered. Just pulling the leash line in when overpowered, pulls the front of the kite foward, but does not completely stall (i.e fall out of the sky)...just kills the power.
Also, if overpowered and you ditch the bar, the kite falls onto its back. If the kite is leading edge down, pull the leash line in about 30cm, and the kite falls onto its back.
Its actually not that much more of a hassle to set up (although i did **** it up the first time) but with a little ingenious device (should have come up with this earlier) that attaches to the lines when correctly spread out, saves hanving to sort the lines out when unrolling them for future sessions.
Not entirely sure if it is really necessary to be honest cause the matrix is really easy to relaunch anyway. Actually would be pretty keen to check out the slinshot setup...not sure but i think they still have 4 lines.

has any one who is using a 5th line system had it luff and flip inside out. wouldnt it tear the canopy. personally i think it is one more thing to get tangled and is a phase. it will be interesting to see how many kites in 2006 models have this system coz their might be some dramas with torn kites. simpilar the better

I've never seen a 5 line setup. Where do you connect the 5th line (between/to) ?

I'm with you ryland, here's a tip why not learn to re-launch properly ?

If you've never dropped your kite, your not trying hard enough !

didn't think about the tearing part but it makes alot of sense.......acutally thats sold me... ive got an f1 mach3 and it has the attatchment points for the 5th line, but was never released with the fith line.. maybe for that reason......But i have seen some setups that if you release the bar..... and have a bungee leash on the chickenloop. the kite collapses, and flaps its sides to the middle...... any1 know what that setup is, and on what kites?

The attachment point is maybe for the pump not for a 5th line?

A lot of kites have the pump attachment in the middle of the leading edge.

There is a possibility of flipping the kite inside out and having the 5th line rip the kite. But you also have a heaps better chance of saving a luffing kite by pulling on the 5th line. Or buy a brand of kite that doesn’t luff and fall out of the sky all the time.
As well as the relaunch which is a bonus the bridled fronts allow a thinner leading edge to be used which should have benefits in larger kites 14m +. Only some of the new season kites have been designed for 5th lines to allow a thinner LE most other brands have just jumped on the band wagon.

If simple was better we would still be flying 2 lines AR 3 classics…….or single line triangular black poly and bamboo backyard wiz bang garage fantastic.

Brownee imagine how much more water time you would have if you didn’t have to fluff around like you do getting your kites on there backs, I reckon you would almost double your actual on top of the water time. 5th line will allow heaps quicker relaunch.

Where is the wind….

Good luck Ryland for the GG’s

yeah, but don't forget the 3 line water foils of around 5 years ago have by far the most superior water relaunch known to man.... way quicker than todays technology, like the one i had, i could guarantee to relaunch inside 10 secs of hitting, doesn't matter which way up it was........ And as far as technology goes, maybe kites are as good as they can be....... and they are now overengineering them , and thinking of wasy to make them better, like put a pump line attatchment on a kite, i mean ive never used it? and overcomplicating them......i mean in five years time.... do you really think that the kites are going to be able to point 30 degrees more into wind, never luff, and auto relaunch....

caus i recon there has been since the start of 03 little to no change in flyability of kites and relauchability accross the board........

you might say on a particular company has made a relaunch system.... , or they have changed the feel of the kite , but it was there in 03 with a different company on a different kite allready that you probably havn't tried, all the different aspects, feel etc that work have allready been made by different companies...... and untill the kites change there shapre radically, i don't think that an extra line, or two or three, is really gonna give you the performance increase for the extra hassle as i see it.

ok I stand corrected I have found why you would want a 5th line setup...

skooting around mellies park on wednesday with my 8m Neme on my buggy (jeeze it was fun, shanos you shouda been there with ya mountain board)...

Anyways launching was a bugger without a 5th line...DOH !

When ours arrive I will try it out and see what the fuss is about, but at present the only reason I drop my kite is I'm trying to learn new stuff...
