Hi I have a boxer with 5th line. When relaunching from water and when i cannot quite get the furthest away tip of kite up it rolls back on itself and gets tangled. Which means back to the beach and undo lines and redo them.

I am only a hacker, just getting going on board learning stage.

Is it only me and will it get better or is it a common problem with 5th line ?

And do other 4 line kites do this ?

I'm trying to visualise this so correct me if I'm wrong.....
You can get the kite to roll onto it's back by pulling the fifth line and I assume you are using the "Shift" fifth line system.

What is very important when you get the kite onto it's back by pulling the fifth line is that you then give a yank on a back steering line. Either one will work, but it's important to do that quickly to ensure the kite moves in one direction or the other so it re-launches. I'm surprised to hear that it rolls over on itself, I'm assuming the wind is getting under the leading edge and flipping it?.

Again, let me know what's happening and I'll try and help you out where I can.

I'm a convert to the fifth line system and have them tuned really well on my kites, they take a bit of tuning to make them work properly, but when you have them working, getting the kite off the water is so easy it's ridiculous. I'd like you to have that same opinion so explain what you see happening. It sounds like it happens nearly everytime?.

i'm not using that specific setup... but it can't be too different... correct me if i'm wrong.

if the kite is rolling over when you don't want it to, after using the 5th, it's because there is no 5th tension.

keep hold of the 5th and feed it out as the kite walks/slides to the edge of the window... when the kite is getting vertical (LE) you should have about 6 inches to a foot of tension left; this is handy to depower the kite and prevent/control a HOT launch. release all 5th tension when you're sure you have control of the kite.
