Hi guys and girls,

I was thinking of upgrading my board. I have been riding a 150 force matrix, which was great for learning on but it is time to move on.

I have tried the airush switch 138 which was great. Would a slingshot sx 137 perform in a similar way. Upwinding etc?

Any ideas?

It really depends on how strong the wind is where you are and what size kite(s) you've got ... but generally, 138~142 would be fine mostly ... then again width of board comes into as well ..

I'm around 90kg's and have have a great season on my Undergrond FLX 142 (new model with double concaves - ugliest graphics you've ever seen though!) - have a 16mtr and 12 mtr bows ... and I've had great fun in anything from 15kts to 35kts ...

However, now looking for a good deal on a second board around the 135 mark (see my wanted add here) ... won't be letting my 142 go though ...

Hope my 20cents worth helps ya !

Hey Dymo,

It's an age old question and one that is impossible to answer. The right board for YOU is the one that rides best under YOUR feet in YOUR normal waters and normal wind conditions. It is useless trialing a board in buttery smooth conditions if you ride in chop.

So many things come into play when determining what board to ride. Body weight, how powered you like to ride, wind strength at your local, like is it usually gusty and strong or light and consistent etc, waves or flat, choppy or smooth, and of course what style you like to ride, freestyle - either fast and powered moves or kite assisted general freestyle.

Do you want your board to be good in waves as well as flat water? There are far too many variables to consider when determining what is a good board for you. Most riders just buy a board, get used to it and don't try too many others so they will always tell you what they ride is great.

We used to demo boards for Airush and one particular day a guy borrowed a 120 Misfit, he rode for 20 minutes and came back frothing and raved it up to his mate (of similar body weight) who took it for a spin for 10 minutes and came back and said it was the worst board he had ever ridden, go figure!

The best way to decide what is a good board for you is to spend a decent part of a session on a board (1-2 hours) and make your mind up if you like it or not, then try another board, and then another and keep going until you find "the perfect board". Many good retailers will allow you to demo the latest boards for a day or two, this is the only way to find a board that works for you.

Disregard general opinion as I have ridden some of the most talked up, flashest boards in the industry and have found them to be very ordinary in performance. I ride what is perfect for me, you should do the same.

Sorry I can't give you a derfinitive answer, and neither can anyone else!

Good luck and enjoy demoing,

Thanks for suggestions, opinions and advice.

Unfortunately I didn't read kitehard's suggestion until after I went to the shop and bought a board. Fortunatly the board i bought is absolutely brilliant and I blasted all day yesterday. It has made a massive difference. I went for an underground 138.

I am sure all new boards run well and I would feel positive about whichever choice I made, but I feel completely pumped about my board and as for the graphics issue, I am not really into fashion anyway.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply, I am off to polish my beautifull new red thing,

tom
