I have a grand plan! Lets all walk over every sand dune we can find up and down the Perth area coastline. Not just Brighton Beach. Forget using provided tracks, they just mean we have to deflate our kites on the sandy beaches. Oh boy, it is such a tough job getting rid of that annoying sand. All that extra effort. And the best part is that eventually the local councils will close down the beaches to kite surfing (kind of like the jetski bylaws). We can all congregate at Melville Beach or maybe Point Walter. Oh man, that would be great! 200 kiters all sharing the same area of water! We wouldnt need to bitch on this forum about Best or Safari Lodge anymore because we could just do it amongst our selves, face to face in one big happy family group! I can't wait, it is going to be so cool!
I've said it before.........be on your best behaviour when kiting on public beaches. Be cool. There are beach-users just waiting for kiters to screw-up so they can kick your arse.
Kitesurfers are not loved, so don't attract the hate.
Does it mean communicating with others... smiling, unselfish....and intelligent???, respectful..the list goes on. Perhaps too hard for some. Then, put on the shades and go about yo business without interferring in other peoples worlds and rights.
And let us not forget........Sheeeeeeeeet always happens....but not more in the kite community than any other.
Hello gruezi, In relation to kiting on public beaches; Being cool means this........ Refrain from acting like attention-seeking whores, get out of folks faces and fade into the background. Don't even leave your footprints in the sand.
The louder you scream 'look at me', the quicker the demise of this gay sport. I'll paint the picture for you.....
Kitesurfing as we know it being fully regulated and relegated to some God-forsaken patch of slimy backwater (probably adjoining the jet-ski area). There we all can practise our 'tangle-passes' and mix it with our two-stoke surfing cousins.
Are you complaining becuase while you sit in your car watching for people to walk over the dunes that are about to be demolished for a big development, that people are going out kiting and having some fun.
How about you just try and set an example and stop worrying about what everyone else is up to. They have Rangers on the beach that make sure everyone is playing the game. They even work over winter and dont need you to help them to do their job.
Im sure you have a good time in summer going up to all the topless girls in the dunes and advise them that they aren't allowed to sit there.
I kite down there more than most and only rarely see people carry their kites over the dunes, and that is only on the coldest days when it seems your the only one watching.
So keep on talking it up, make yourself known to all the local sinners down there,Im sure they will be happy to give you a hand next time you need a launch, or to catch your kite so it doesnt land in the dunes.
They are the guys that kite in winter,on the water, not on the forum.
well said cozza. happy self launching northside. if you got a problem say it to someones face instead of whinging on the net like a b!tch......... if u spent as much time kiting as u did complaining u might actually have some fun on the water.........
