Today there were 4 separate incidents that required the lifeguards to mobilise and remove people from the water due to kiters kiting amongst swimmers and surfers and Kites falling out of the sky into the breaking water on the main beach of noosa.

As such, the lifeguards are very unhappy and we are expecting some negative feedback to the council. Please take note of the following!

KITING IS TOTALLY BANNED FROM THE RIVERMOUTH ROCKWALL - ALL ALONG THE MAIN BEACH.
DO NOT GO THERE. Leave it for the families and kids to swim in peace and safety, its onshore and choppy and no fun anyway so why bother.

ALSO SPRAYING WATER, JUMPING OVER AND BEING A GENERAL SHOW PONY NEAR BOATS THAT ARE IN TRANSIT THROUGH THE RIVERMOUTH IS ALSO NOT ACCEPTABLE.

COUNCIL IS WATCHING!!!!!!! DONT GET US BANNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKYOU AND MANY HAPPY DAYS KITING TO YOU ALL IN THE NEW YEAR.

Mike,

I was at Noosa river mouth this afternoon and unfortunately have to agree, there was some ridiculous kiteing going on with a mix of beginners, gusty wind, showing off to the not so adoring public and general inconsiderate kiteing. This combined with 10 year old kids on jetskis and power boats trying to do donuts made it a hairy session!

I like the sound of cranky sam, send him up dave!!!!! he will be very very very busy,

Just a note, the council have erected a sign(albiet small, hard to find, and graphically incorrect) and as such no one can use the excuse of "I didnt know"

saying that it took me 5 min to find the thing and other locals were walking past it for days till i pointed it out, what hope do the tourists have.

We welcome tourists, but please learn the local rules.

I will be a tourist kiting in other parts of australia myself and will seek to do the same out of respect for each area.

HAPPY KITING

I was there a few weeks ago and i must say that in such a confined area if everyone was encouraged to tack upwind a few hundred yards to the "northshore" instead of pulling their moves to the tourist crowd as if they were the Krusty Demons of Dirt Crew then the local kiteshowoffs/nuisances wouldn't have to call the touro kiters showoffs/nuisances.

Leading by example possibly helps.

Or make t shirts with "I'M A NOOSA KITE NOOSANCE (AND PROUD OF IT!)

It's amazing what a audience does to people.

Maybe a sign should be put up saying "Kite Beginners and Kite show offs Not Allowed to Kite Here " that may leave it to us responsible kiters

Hi Guys,

Obviously Noosa has always been, and will always be a problem due to the public which congregate on the South shore.

I think you will find you may have better luck if you approach the kiters in question, yourselves and point out the acceptable behaviour and the not so acceptable behaviour.

Believe it or not, every kiter in Australia does not read this forum, in fact I would suggest it is a smallish minority.

Get proactive and do something about it yourselves. If we see clowns at our beach, we approach them and school them on the do's and don'ts, then they know!

I have also put up a series of laminated A4 sheets around the beach in prominent places giving guidelines as to acceptable practices. It seems to have helped a little.

Good luck, I would put Noosa river mouth in the high risk ban category.

Happy New Year,

Yeah I reckon it'd be easier to tell them to watch their game now than wait for a ban and regret it later.

Also remember that even though Noosa is one of the best spots on the coast it's also quite small and limited. The Sunshine Coast boasts some of the best open water kiting along the surf beaches and is really uncrowded. I don't reckon Noosa is a good place if you are a novice unless you are getting lessons there.

If you are on holiday here and have transport, try some of the other spots. Just remember to stay clear of the flags (200m) and look out for swimmers and surfers on the open beaches.
