I am off to Adelaide next week Mon - Thursday for a business trip. Should I take any kites along? I will be in the city centre and willing to travel anywhere public transport or a reasonable cab fare can take me...

If your in town head to Henley beach thats close by. Normal kite for there is a 12m but winds are getting a bit lighter now, another spot is semaphore and largs bay there all within public transport and 20 mins from the city.
