Hi all, Am wondering if anyone has got any advice on brands and sizes for a twin tip to suit a beginner kiteboarder. I weigh 90 kilos and have been told will probably need something around the 150cm mark, any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Yoshi,

At 90kg, 150cm sounds a bit small to be starting on as you will need to be pretty powered up on a big kite unless the board is very wide (42-45cm).

What kite do you have and what stage is your kiting?

Sure, I'm biased as I have a 175 Wipika twintip to sell for $300. I weigh 60kg and had so much progression on the 175 from first upwinders to boosting and waves. Like it enough to have a second one I bought whilst overseas. Ask around and call 0421 508920 if you want to know more.

2004 150 Airush Switch. Soft Ride. Early planning. Great upwind. Easy to hold rail in strong wind. Great Board. I'm 85kg.

hi,
i started of on a 168 naish twin tip and i weigh 75 kilos. i would suggest that this size or abit larger would be good for you. i personally wouldnt go any smaller. reason being that if you wiegh 90 kilos, you will be wanting ( like any weight) to get planing earlier and easier. the larger the board = the easier it is to get planing. all to do with bouyancy. i would say that a 175 would be perfect to learn on for you- but then again it depends wat size kite you have got.

I would agree with PaulG. 150 sounds right. Its more to do with planing surface than bouyancy, and the switch is nice and wide. I wouldn't go more than a 160.
