Hey Guys and girls

I am new to kiting but have been reading a fair bit of the forums on here. Unfortunately the time has come to sell my wakeboard but I am pretty stoked on kiting.
I am after some opinions/info on kiting all year round. Is it possible? I am hearing conflicting stories...
The reason I ask is because after notching up a few more lessons I would like to buy some gear, but I obviously don't want it to sit in the shed until next season. I live about 5 mins away from Pelican point and 10 mins from the ocean, so those spots are the easiest for me to get to.

Any help would be great!

Cheers

Get on the water now. Stay on the water all year in WA.
As for gear, best time to pick up some super cheap secondhand kit.

Hi Stylez,

Most experienced riders ride year round, well almost anyway. May and June are usually windless and epic for surfing so there's no reason to kite then anyways.

Winter time is for the experienced riders who are used to difficult conditions generally, there are some nice days occassionally but it is normally very gusty, strong and squally with wind speeds ranging from 15 to 40 knots in rain squalls.

Winter winds tend to be W/NW which is the opposite to our normal sea breeze and the winds are frontal not convectional. There is usually a fair amount of swell associated with the big days.

it's still rideable, you just need to know what you are doing and play it very carefully, especially when you see a rain cloud approaching. Either land your kite very quickly or get way out away from the beach until it passes.

It is highly recommended to fly kites with massive depower and good stability in such conditions so you don't become a statistic.

Good winds,

theres not much kiting to be had at peli during winter, wind direction is generally much better for the south side of the river or the coast

In the winter you head to Far North Queensland where the kiting is going off! you can kite anytime anywhere as long as there is wind and you got some brains.....
