Can anyone tell me about kiting at Alva Beach? What time of year it works best (im assuming now till Nov?) What tides, is there any surf etc etc. I can tell theres plenty of flat water there.

Hi Ali,

Alva is a great spot. It works best on a run in tide, but any tide will do. High tide is good because there are more little ponds and puddles to ride in and the river is wider upstream.

There is wind chop surf at the river mouth which is dead onshore so not heaps of fun, but nice enough to break up the monotonous perfect ly smooth water.

Park near the club house and walk across the dunes, rig on the waters edge and ride where ever is least tide effected.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Darren, you would remember myself and Chris from the course you did up in Port Douglas last year, kited the whole season in Exmouth since moving acroos shortly after that, wind is pretty patchy now though and more SE and NE than our beloved SW'er.

Happen to be heading back to QLD for a few days and will be staying in Ayr, had heard about Alva but havent had the pleasure of kiting there yet.

Any plans of a northern trip later in the year?

Hey ali,
give Matt Payne at "In the Loop kiteboarding" a ring, he will be able to give you the low down.
