depends... are you 112kg with the build of an olympic rower or 5 foot and almost as wide? because if your still fit you can handle the extra grunt you need to generate. 112kg isnt that much for a kite to pull. My old man is 112kg and could get up if he wasn't in a waiting list for a prosthetic knee

Hi Marni,

You can fly, you just need to carry a kite which is matched to your bodyweight for the conditions of the day.

Secondly, you need to have good timing and good technique. Practice, get a few tips from someone who can really boost and maybe even look for alternative kites that may suit your requirements better. Technnique and timing are 80% of it, add some strong wind and courage is another 10% and then a good kite can make the last bit.

You can fly, go you big boy!

Good winds,

Hey Marni,

I'm in a similar situation to manic, I started 3 years ago weighing 85Kgs, and now push the scales to 100-105. As all the guys have said you just need a little bit bigger kite for the same wind conditions (you'd prob. need a 16 or so when other guys are flying 12s-14s). A bow would probably help with this a little as you get a little extra pull for the same size.

Get out there, get the technique down, and launch to the heavens mate,

D

Everything that Darren (Kitehard) said, and make sure you can get a seat harness to fit comfortably, they do come in large sizes, but there is a limit, see whats available at your local shop first, before plunging in and buying a kite. other than that there is not reason weight/size should stop ,you from kiting.

Just make sure you don't get too close to the humpbacks migrating along the coast - they can be amorous if you closely resemble one of their kin.

fair go...., 112kg isnt that big. I was 110kg for the first few years of kiteboarding. Now at 100kg I find that weight is a big advantage. You just need to concentrate heavily on your style and technique. Heavier guys generally shy away from the harder moves because they crash a little harder, and find it difficult to get the power. You just need to put a little more energy into your riding style. By doing this, you will also start losing the weight.

-Master the basic moves before attempting any technical moves.
-Approach your moves with speed and power.
-throw your body weight into the move.

Youll nail it.

The Waroo is a great kite and will serve your size well. Just make sure the size of the kite suits your conditions tho.

I would be reluctant to go a 15mtr. Stick with a 13mtr, Later on get a 17 / 18mtr for the light wind days. Having a to big kite like a 15 for your everyday riding will most probably be slow in turning and will limit you when the winds exceed 20knots. Large kites are not designed to handle large winds, and just cause you are 30kg heavier than ol mate next door, doesnt meen you need to get a massive kite for all conditions.

Good Luck

Joe

i have only been riding a few months and i thought exactly the same thing when i started. i am about 95kegs about i have a 12m kite. I'm sure you will put the kite in the wrong spot like i have on occasion and realise the amount of power they generate. it will lift you up and slap you silly...but you'll go back for more.
good luck.

Im 98kg & fly 10m switchblade3 as my main kite & have no dramas at all boosting jumps & tricks. I think it mainly depends on your style.

And that blood doesn't just get pulled out of no-where its already in your body somewhere.Just think about the logic in what you are suggesting. When you get a hard on suddenly two kgs of blood appears in your body and when its gone the blood just dissapears off the face off the earth? explain how this works?

Anyway back to the topic,
Im fifteen and i weigh about 65kg and a seven metre half depowered lifted me off the ground and im planning on buying a nine metre NEW so i dont really have this problem...

You could try losing some weight no? Kitesurfing will help with that if you can get motivated to get out there. Otherwise get yourself a 16m Fuel and go it.

My largest student was 195cm tall and 130kg.
happily used a 12m as his first kite with a 145 x 41cm board.

needed a 12.5' Mal to surf, never complained about being dropped in on.

So if it comes from my brain then is that why I can only think with one head at a time?
