Hey all,
Been sailing for ages and very keen to get into kitesurfing. I know quite there are a lot of posts like this and I have read them, but would like as many opinions as possible. For starters I'm 15 damn tall at 185cm and weigh around 77 kg. I'm north of the river in Duncraig and was wondering if anyone could recomend a good instructor up this way, someone has already reccomended Rob Gannon, any thoughts? Don't have much of a budget atm so was wondering what a good combo would be for starters as later on I would more than likely want an upgrade. Willl probably have a heap more wuestions but any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Matt

There are many good instructors in Perth. Hope you have a job or have inherited, because you are getting in to a fairly expensive thingy.

Professional lessons is a must. You don't need many hours, but the quality is what counts. Then you must practice like heck what you have been tought. When you master some things, then get another lesson, then go ask your new mates.

Good luck

Yeh got a job at the good old video stor and also a sailing instructor. Yeh generally what I figured thanks for the advice though. I'm used to the expensive hobby thing it seems to be an addiction of some sort for me eg. sailing, expensive fish keeping, and every other watersport ,
Any more tips?
Thanks

Try before you buy gear, and after lessons.

Read up about gear on this forum using "search." Also Google everything, including instructors (get a list) and learn about the weather, especially WIND!

Finally use your brain and common sense. YOU KNOW IT when you are being an idiot, so don't do it, if unsure ask...and finally, when in doubt or scarred don't do it.

search for criticism (constructive) when trying something new, don't do anything unless your confident that you can handle what ever problems that may arouse and stay away from bystanders. that sounded simple didn't it now dismiss any ideas about taking friends to the beach with you. unfortuanately saving up for gear might require over the top measures to reduce spending IE dare i say it give up alcohol for a while. it takes a toll i know.
BTW I'm 183cm 70kg and use a 9m

How does that work lol? I'm 5ft 7.5 or 171/173cm I think it is, and I'm 52-54kgs and ride a 10m in 15-23 knots... Works like a charm

yeah i kite from pinnaroo and as i suspect many others on this forum. i'll be there everday there is a decent seabreeze for the next couple of weeks. have a chat to anyone down there, i'm sure they'll be willing to answer your questions.
(i'll be there with either a grey 8m LF spectrum 2 or a blue/black 10m caution.)

Awesome I love skiffs eh, but atm i sail a laser radial and full rig in the lighter stuff at Hillary's. Used to sail the mirrors. I just need something else for my adrenaline needsas its too far to travel to the river to sail skiffs, and i like the competition of lasers hehe. All sounding good so far hopefully some of you at pinnaroo this weekend, thanks a heap
