Is this your main kite, or do you have more than one? What do you weigh?

convert 9 and switch iii 6m (24+kn)
have just started on the 6m, so the whole concept of a small kite is a new challenge

been riding a small kite my whole kiting days

A few tips:

When your working your kite and your slightly underpowered dont fully sheet in your kite let it out a little so you dont choke it.
when boosting (applys to all kites) keep it moving dont hang it above your head
with smaller kites it will drop out the sky due to the wind not catching in the kite then you have a problem!

Be super aggressive with your flying style. Really work the kite in the sine pattern and really throw when you boost.

Small kites are the dogs bollocks.

I ride a 9m RevII and 9m Boxer SLE as my usual kites and Boxer SLE 6m as my high wind.

I'm around the same weight as you, riding surfboards.

The changeover to the 6m just requires you to not over control the kite-it's great for waveriding with the added maneuverability of the small kite-naturally the power is more on and off than a larger kite-nothing really to it but to get out and do it.

If you want to go upwind, keep up the board speed as you will get the most out of the kite this way. You cant just get up and park the kite, you need to keep the apparent wind speed high by riding cross or slightly downwind to build up board speed, then carve upwind and keep the bar pulled in.

Lift is linearly proportional to area, but is proportional to the square of the velocity.
(Lift = 1/2*CL*density*Velocity^2*Area)

when the wind is light this technique works well for me;

only edge when you have power in the kite, straighten your body up and flatten out the board while the kite is in its turn. sheet in hard on the downstroke, sheet out as far your arms can reach on the upstroke.

so from take off;

1 - dive the kite hard sheeted in, make sure you are pointing the board down wind enough to get on the plane.

2 - straighten your body up flattening out the board as the kite turns for the upstroke and sheet out.

3 - as you feel the power come back lean into the wind edging upwind

4 - straighten your body up flattening out the board as the kites reaches the top of the stroke.

5 - sheet in and dive the kite.

6 - as you feel the power come back on lean into the wind edging up wind.

once you get good at this you will find riding a size down and being underpowered is not such a big deal. this will give you better controlled power than looping the kite and you will impress your friend s with your mad lightwind skillz!

Pretty much what I do on light wind days on the 9M-means I can ride waves in pretty light wind.

Naturally you're less inclined to use the technique with a 6m-unless the wind has dropped whilst you're out there and you need to get back in.

I ride waves only, with my 7m bow-style kite.....
A one-kite quiver driving a single-finned double-ender short board.
I range between 14-30 knots.
That's ridiculous. ^^^
The sweet spot is what ? Maybe say 22.
I like to fly it at about 9-9.30 o'clock mostly.
Keeping the kite low intimidates wave-poleys and milks the power zone for max grunt.
Even with the kite low, you still need to be able to downstroke frequently.
It's a technique that requires subtle touch cause you'll crash your kite into the sea if you daydream.
I haven't clothes-lined anybody yet......
but I've rubbed a few people the wrong way lately.
lol.
