Phuket Thailand any thing, is it worth it taking my gear. Im on coral island for a week there any good?

I was there 3 weeks ago and there was about 5 knots, but I did not bring my gear. If you head to Hua Hin then the wind is there but that is some way away from Phuket. I was also there same time last year with my gear and again i think maximum was about 10 knots. I just got drunk every night, as work was paying for my trip. The best time in Phuket is November to end of February.
