1st post here.

I see that BEST is offering their 3 for the price of 2 deal again and it's now available at the Kitepower stores in Australia.

Has anyone flown a best kite yet? Particularly interested in the Nemesis.

I haven't even seen one of the kites yet, but the deal looks too good to refuse at about $2300 odd for 3 kites.

Makes my X3s look bloody expensive.

Looking forward to some feedback.

Thanks in advance.

I'd advise you try these kites before you fly them, I've flown the EH/Best kites and they go OK in my opinion, a good alround kite, but again in my opinion they are pretty soft kites compared to the majors.
I reckon you will be pretty bored if you change your X3 for these kites. Lack the same speed and quickness and not huge POP. If I was new to the sport I reckon the BEST deal was a great in and about time a little bit of competition come into pricing, but if you can kite I reckon my old x2 are better performance kites. Some people will get onto these kites a feel right at home. I reckon all last years Naishes, Gastras, airrushes, slingshots, RRD's ,whipiys etc are as good if not better than the EH or BEST kites of 2004. They are all selling for comparable prices today.
Ive paid for alot of kites(8) and boards (7)in the last 3 years, and I reckon the best way to buy a kite or board is to try them out first.
Cheap or expensive is not always the best. But mate trading your x3 for BEST kites and I reckon you will curse the day.

Wayne rocks on his EH ,with a many a radical kite loop at speed with height and 2 metres off the beach pulled off at the phone Box most afternoons. I did'nt want to upset my phone box mate with my own thoughts on kites.

Hmm, doesn't sound like these guys have actually flown a 2004 Best kite. EH and Best are not the same kite, although both brands are *designed* by Cabarete-based Eric Hertens and Peter Stiewe. If you'd like to read some real reviews of the actual kites see here:

http://www.kiteforum.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=7&sid=

My Best Yarga 13.5m and 9m Grunt just arrived here yesterday. Excellent free delivery service via FedX btw and the guys (Shannon Best, Alex Shogren et al) gave me top product advice on their website via the live chat facility, before I bought the gear.

Unfortunately no wind these days, besides I'm a newbie to the sport and still taking lessons. Therefore not qualified to review the kites.

I missed the fun on Saturday morning but, was watching from the hill at Mosman Park at about 8am, looked really good, had my 4 & 2 year olds with me. My son who is 4 said" thoses kiters are really good dad" so you guys were obviously putting on a show. I got down there Sunday morning at 7am, a just kitable 15plus knots, maybe next time.
Saw a kiter pull two other kiters(they looked as they could'nt get there kites up) out of deep water on the flat side, took him at least 20 minutes of FUN. The two were headed off across the channel to Mosman Park. GOOD ON YA MATE.

that was sue anderson and another chick, sue went to help but went to far and lost all wind then big pete from addiction helped them both when they drifted out far enough to get to them without dropping his kite as well, then the ferry came past and picked up one of there boards, all ended well and safe.

Bo, I'm sure you will love your new kites, and as a dude getting into the sport there is no other way to go, good kites at a great price, but my point of jumping into this conversation was, if you can already kite, and have good kites, you wanna try out these new kites to the market, before you spend even more money. Every kite is different and some suit your style or feel. I'm a totally biased X3 user and love my kites, I reckon they are way too expensive, but I like the way they ride. So I pay. There is alot of hype and fashion in kiting, and reviews of kite are regulary business generated by associates or riders of that company. I reckon it takes a full 6 to 8 months after the release of a kite range for the REAL story of how they fly is common knowledge. In the old days(2-3 years ago) you just had to pay for a kite and hope the kite was good, or maybe you were good enough to fly it with the **** house boards we all started on. Go hard, beg borrow and steal to get your kites and boards and try a new move this arvo......

Thanks for the replies.

I realize there is some West Coast parochialism here-I'm from the Northern Beaches of Sydney-so would love to get my hands on a Best to give it a bash-but no one here is riding them. Very happy with the X3s so a change would only be on the cards if it was a change for the better-but s**t they sure are cheap-you can get a 10-14-18 for about $2,300-no bars-but I've got a couple (at least) anyway. There boards are cheap too-at least compared to the WTs I ride.

I'll try and hunt down a Nemesis here to give it a whirl-maybe Steve from Kitepower (Southside of Sydney though) will read this and PM me?

Again, thanks.

There is a WA rep Rob Brown 0404 637 147 that has Best kites that any body can Demo. Was at Melville Beach giving a 12 Nemises a trial yesterday.
My flatmate has an 11 yarga Best which i have also demoed a couple of times.
There is no need to talk up the attributes of these puppies, let me just say that i have all my kites for sale so that i can take up the 3 Best Kites for the price of 2 offer.
Anybody wanting a cheap 8, 11.5 , or 14 can call me.

I've flown the Nemisis 10 & 12 and they felt fine 2 me but I'm only new 2 kiting & only got a 12m CO2 (which also feels good 2 me) Needless 2 say I'm looking at going for the buy 2 get a freebie deal. All struts and leading edge quite narrow and may help the speed. Anybody flown the Nemisis 16?

I have flown the 14 Nemesis and heaps of other 04 gear lately (Cabrhina,Caution,North,Liquid Force)to upgrade from my Rhino 2 quiver.
I agree that the 3for2 deal is great! But, after flying the Liquid Force gear I am going to get a new quiver of them (Spectrums).
They have matched or beaten the Best standard prices - but not the 3 for 2 deal - and the construction and quality (not to mention the colours) are all a better imo.
The 14 Nemesis had great boost and hang but I noticed the canopy had d some rippling in it (noticed on a Nem 12 the other day as well)when flying. Not that this means much to performance, but more of a quality perception to me. The Spectrums have got the best hangtime I have ever had on any kite or brand - including the Rhin0 2's!
Try and get a go on all of them if you can.
I would have liked to try the X4, but at more than twice the price -not an option.

New X4's start at $1600(ish) including a top of the wazza bar and lines.
X3's approx $1400 (complete)
Last years Airush LiftPro's for 750.
Look around guys.
Naish have dropped their prices dramatically to combat cheap imports which have no retail support, service, backup or credibility.
I think that this formu is supposed to be commercial free however the cheap no support brands are getting a degree of support which the really good brands are competing with and if it isn't said here, where will you hear it?

No offense intended.

I think Naish kites have always been good and dont argue that the x3/x4 are top kites, but I wouldnt pay that much for one personally. But many would and do. But to comment on;

"cheap imports" - arent all the kites you mentioned imports? I guess the price leaving the factories in China is pretty much the same ( with 1 or 2 obviously cheapo kites prob being cheaper but they not in perth anymore) the price we pay in the shop/online depends on how many people make money from it and how much.

I think the sellers of the less expensive kites would argue with the "no support". What support do you need, you can buy a bar/lines anywhere, repairs are not done by the shop but by some good repairers out there, and they have warrntties i Imagine ( havent checked - they do right?).

credibility - i think liquid force and best have credibility.

service - they have service.

oh and PLEASE GOD, GIVE ME ANOTHER DAY LIKE YESTERDAY!!!!!! AWESOME.

Bo, did you have any problems with customs? How much did you have to pay and how did it work to get the kites cleared?

Thanx for you help!

No problems with customs. I had to pay the standard customs's fees for Australia, which are:

A) 5% Import Duty for sporting goods
B) 10% GST

These fees were drived from the invoiced US$ price by converting it on the day to AU$...

Bo

PS As a kiting noob I won't try and review these kites, but to me they seem to fly and control much better than the Airushs I had my first lessons on. My instructor helped me tune the kites and set them up. After initial scepticism he conceded that the quality and finish was "at least as good as the 2004 Naishs and Slingshots." Hope someone finds those observations useful. (The local retailers obviously won't )

I applaud Best for providing an alternative brand option at reasonable prices and easy access to spare parts at a very reasonable cost. It seams bladders the most likley part of a kite to give you problems are the hardest to find and are bloody expensive when you do find them. Check out Best replacement bladder prices gives you a very realistic view on what these plastic bags with a valve on are really worth. It is time for distributers/shops to stop riding on the notion of "unnparralelled" support they claim you get through a shop/distributer, I dont fly best Yet - but look forward to the convenience of obtaining replacement parts etc at a price that is reasonable and not a simple rip off.

You can see the truth in this rip off as the big names are being forced to bring down there prices - its called competition

Naish have dropped their prices dramatically!!!!
realy?
The price given for a 8m is still way too much, I suspect you will have to add on $100 per sqm.
There is a 16 m X3 for sale on the forum for $650, that means the poor guy is loosing about $ 1500 after only 6 months, think about it!
Go BEST!!!!
