Hey Bassetkite,

I have kited Forstera few years ago. You can do Black Head and a mega downwinder into Forster Harbour or at least to the beach on the edge of the harbour entrance. The kiting is good, but you have to keep an eye on the bluebottles as they can swarm like crazy in the right conditions. I struck a particularly nasty patch when I was there and my 2 line kite flipped inside it's own bridle and I had to body drag in through thousands of em. I got nailed pretty good, but rerighted the kite and had an escort of dolphins most of the rest of the way, which was comforting because I kited it alone.

Don't know if this helped you.

G'day Bassetkite

Old Bar is a place where a lot of locals in the Foster area hang out, big shallow are in the lake there, great for learning I'm told.
There is an area down in Smiths lake that is good for learning too, but I would recommend you meet up with the locals and stick to the lakes until you feel confident enough to tackle the ocean.
Check the link out below, it has details of Ben Cox's road trip through the area, pics are in the gallery too.
