With the forecast showing a few days of "good" NW winds are there any reasons/cautions that you need to be aware of before going out in them?

Just asking as I never seem to see many people kiting in a NW and wondered if there was some reason for it.

Thanks everyone.

JUST GOTTA FIND A PLACE THAT IS GOOD.
MAJESTIC BAY IS WHERE I USED TO GO IN THAT DIRECTION BUT I DONT LIVE NEAR THERE ANYMORE.
I AM THINKIN OF SCABS, JUST OPPOSITE TACK.
LANCELIN IS GOOD FOR NWESTERS ROUND THE CORNER.....

Cheers Caution.

I normally kite at Pinnaroo and couldn't see any reason why a NW wouldn't work there; like you say about Scarbs it's just the opposite tack.

majestic is the usual spot used for windsurfers. A few people go out there some days.

my best advice is to check the forecast wind strengths. if they talk of possible strong gusts during showers or thunderstorms its probably not an idea to go kiting. this is mainly during the winter months. if its a bit overcast i tend to check the wind strengths off the back of the islands. if it has rained i check the max wind strength during that time. if you notice big increases 30kn plus it is possible their may be squalls that day. not much fun kiting looking over your shoulder. best advice is avoid rainy days or possible thunderstorm forecast days.

The forcast is actualy saying W/NW for most of it which is quite onshore for most of our coast. Be careful.

Pinaroo is ultra choppy in NW.

Woodies is fantastic in this direction.

This is all frontal s@*t so check rain rader/wind strenghs/gust factor etc before you go. More so if there are others out when you get there check with them to see if it's really worthwhile before you find out it wasn't.

I must admit I only really go out when the wind is looking tops and there are no showers around. I think I'll stick to that; especially when there's some nice looking days around the corner.

Just really wanted to check if it was possible to go out in a NW, but judging from the feedback it probably isn't worth the risk.

Once again thanks everyone for answering my question.

Safe kiting!

Thanks Owieb - was wondering bout those NWers myself just before your post .
And Hey you are right - it is still cross-on just on a different tack
Reckon Lucky Bay would be the GO. I'll just start at the other end of the beach No problem at all.
Thinking now that it has to be even better
Y ??? (you may well ask) Cos experience has convinced me that that normal walk back ; south from the north (self-landing ) end; is definately way uphill
Go the NWers & a downhill walk home
