They claim 100% water proof? Just looking at it, looks like a good thing to have on you for doing downwinders to call your pickup. And for just using it on the beach and stuff to save your phone getting all sandy and ****. What you recon?

I use one with the headzone radio helmet for instructing, works well. I have used it in the surf with no water ingress what so ever. Students can still hear transmissions sent through plastic sheath.
For $40, money well spent.

Agree. I carry money (for taxi in case of trouble), car keys and phone in my pouch. Works brilliantly. Also use it often at the beach when I don't want to get sand in my phone. Workwhile investment.

We used Aquapacs for the past two years for our radios in the school. They are great so long as you keep the sand out of the seals and make sure you close them properly then they don't leak.

Good value, especially for downwinders.

Go grab one

Kitehard, what radios are you using, and how does the ridder wear them? What range do you have? Can you get multple people on the one frequency?
If you are keeping an aqua pack to keep dry, I take it they are not waterproof ..... do you know of any model that is 100% waterproof?
Thanks ........ I'm looking for a unit that a few kiters can use to keep in communiation for big down winders based from a yacht.

Hey Gasman,

I was using the Uniden uh039P. These are small hand held UHF radios (twin Pack) with rechargeables about $140 with chargers etc

There is also a cheaper and smaller set available from Dick Smith and Tandy which is a 4 pack which uses AAA's for $100. You can run everyone on the same channel or use seperate channels if you prefer. 3+km range and 40 channels to choose from. Pretty good and quite cheap. I would put the Aquapac leash around your neck and place the radio down your wettie. This is any easy way to keep in contact with your buddies on the water. I think there are waterproof UHF radios, but they are REEEAAALLLYY Expensive!

We placed the Unidens into Aquapacks and then attached the Aquapac to the side of a Gath helmet with a bungee and cable tie setup. Although it worked reasonably well and made teaching heaps more efficient, we have opted to upgrade to the more expensive and very professional Headzone Coaching system this year in line with our total school upgrade.

The Headzone system uses proper impact resistant helmets with built in water proof battery and receivers with stereo speakers. This results in clearer communication and better head protection whilst providing greater comfort levels for our students.

Hope this helps. Good winds,

One can find them in surf shops, kite surfing and windsurfing stores, adventure outlets like Paddy Pallin etc.

i just bought a gps to take out on the water and was looking to get an Aqua pack for it ..but none avaliable in this dingy town..so i had to go for a water proof pack from the camping store .it says it is water proof for upto 20 minutes... ony cost me 6.50..
i might test it out properly before i fill it with electronics.
