I'm not one to normally have a whine. But this is more of a not let this happen to you…

1. Posted an add on Buy & Sell
2. Guy contacted me. We made a deal and he purchased the 3 kites
3. I pack 1 kite in one bag with Bars and pump etc. The other kites are both put in one bag to save on freight costs
4. Guy pays ½ of total deal (will pay the rest when he gets kites and is happy)
5. I post with Aust. Post “registered mail”
6. After 1 week and still the kites haven't been seen. We both become worried
7. Contact AP and after about 4 calls find out the kites have been stolen from the delivery van
8. After heaps for more calls, they somehow find 1 parcel and it is delivered to purchaser
9. After **** loads of more calls finally get the police report etc. and it is definite the 2nd parcel isn't going to turn up
10. I refund the difference $$ back to the buyer, cause he only got one kite. He posts the extra bar back to me
11. Start the compensation process, was verbally told I will get full compensation. I need to supply proof of sending and get an valuation of products posted
12. Do all that, and then get a long email with a heap of fine print on the bottom in which is stated I'm only entitled to $100 + postage.
13. After a few more calls, my case is actually given to a case manager who confirms that they have reviewed the case but unfortunately they will only stick with AP policy and pay out the $100 + postage
14. I get a money order in the post for $120.25. (I actually paid $40.50 for postage but they said because one article got there they will only refund the postage for one item)

So long story short I have no kites. No money to order the new Noise Kites I wanted.

If you do post items with AP make sure to insure them. In my case, I did look at it and thought it was a bit expensive. In hindsight maybe it wasn't to expensive..

And when they deliver parcels, even if you're home they just pop a card straight in the letterbox saying you weren't home and to come and get it from the post office. Lazy bastards. Has happened to me 3 times this week.

Thanks for the heads up, I never read the fine print. Most people assume that they pay extra for "registered" mail so they are insured. So with all that tracking stuff they use they cant find the dodgy driver.......come on.

Ive chased them down the street, and asked WTF. Again no accountability, get their number and complain, no one at AP gives a crap.
Even better when they chuck the card in the wrong letterbox in their haste.

Yeah I suspect sometime that if the parcel deliverer can't get to your place they send a "please pick up" card using the normal mail deliverer.

At least that's how it seems to work where I live...

It's even worse in my area now. The regular AP woman used to be really good. Just recently a couple of Indian guys undercut her on the contract by heaps and she lost her job. AP don't give a crap, it's all about $$'s.

Can you claim it on your house insurance? ...since your property got stolen?

registered includes $100 insurance, you have to buy extra to cover the value of contents when you are filling ou the form (not much extra) You must have got someone who was crxp at their job because everytime I have sent something they always tell me that.

If you have contents insurance you may be able to make a claim that your goods were stolen (because you have proof) my policy certainly covers them. Look into it. Usually new for old too :)

Very sorry to hear that gerard. Sh1t like that sucks. Postage in Aus is seriously pricey but whilst hunting around to get a surfboard shipped from interstate recently I found these guys. I haven't actually used them yet cause the board is still being shaped but really cheap and offer insurance for bugger all as well. Will be giving them a go when it's ready. For anyone else looking for an alternative it might be worth checking them out.

ive used e-go a few times and they are really good, If you drop it off to their depot you save 25% and if its picked up for a depot you save another 25% and insurance is pretty reasonable.

Freight!!!! What a nightmare. October last year had a brand new GREEN 11.5m BEST Kahoona v2 stolen with FREIGHT SPECIALISTS in Whyalla only going to Ceduna to my customer....only 4hrs drive.Charged $33 freight and still have seen no compensation, not even the $33.Police did jak... And then one of my customer sends his Cardboard Tempo with them i month ago and it goes as well. So some stealing asshole now has a kit.
So if anyone sees a Green Kahoona or a Cardboard Tempo 135cm drop me a line.
These bastards should be caught and strapped to an old school 18m- 2 line C kite with no quick release in 35 kts...on concrete.

I heard of a lot of kites go missing in Aus post, One brand sent 4 kites for a demo day, didn't insure them, they never arrived, + 4 other stories of kites going missing. Registered mail is the same.

Must be a lot of Postal Kite Surfers. Insure everything

With insurance, post office told me you need to have:

1) A tax receipt of payment
2) Copy of postage paperwork
3) A stamp on copy with date

Or its not covered if you try to claim....

This is a common problem that I have complained about for years. All parcel delivery by Aus Post is subcontracted to third parties who don't give a **** and have no accountability except to go home as soon as possible.

Half the time they don't even bother to leave a card in the postbox. Every time you have to go and stand in the queue for half an hour just to collect the bloody package when it would have taken and extra 30 sec for them to wait for you to come to the door. Scoundrels.

The clerks at the PO tell me they get 15-20 complaints PER DAY about this but the depot managers refuse to take action to deal with it.

Write a letter to:

The Chairman of Aus Post David Mortimer, AO.
Australia Post
GPO Box 9911
Melbourne VIC 3000

Copy it to the Postal Industry Ombudsman
http://www.pio.gov.au/

as well as Stephen Conroy
Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.

Nothing will probably happen but at least the lazy bastards will know that everyone is onto their scam...
