Wind resource assessment in Australia: a planners guide. CSIRO 2003.www.csiro.au/resources/pf16q.htmlThis data is averaged over only 2 years, which may or may not have been representative of "typical" wind patterns over a longer period, but anyway it shows where it blows!
Sub tropical WA
Tassie
Gippsland in Victoria
Far North Queenslad
Also worth noting, that the seasonality is omitted - as anyone who reads these forums will no doubt appreciate, the whole sub-tropical coastline of WA gets a whole lot less wind in winter than it does during the summer seabreeze season, causing the WA kiters to get a bit rabid with wind deprivation. Tassie and Gippsland are also seasonal, but the other way, with the winter frontal WNW winds cranking through winter.
If you look at the seasonal wind roses on the BoM site (
www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/wind/selection_map.shtml), Cooktown and the FNQ coast is the only place where the wind (in this case SE trades) continue steadily from the same direction nearly all year.
Got a few turbines...??
