Has anyone flown the new Best BFK (Big Farken Kite) with ASS (dont ask)...?

I fly their Nemesis range, and they are consistent with the advertised wind ranges on the Best website.

I don't know if Best have lost the plot, or if it gratuitous marketing, or...gasp...if its true, but they list a 21m BFK as having a wind range of 4-12knots.

If its true it will be a godsend. Almost tempted to get one just to try it out...

Yeah I was out on my 18m "BFK" this arvo down at Safety Bay...

FAARKEN COOL RIDE...

It was 12 kts, I was riding my 130cm BESTPRO and I weigh 100kg's at present...

YES I managed to keep my ground when the wind was there...

Out of the bag this kite looks impressive. Extra large dump valves for rapid deflation, stopper valves for easy inflation, "ASS" bridal is already attached (I'd reconmend starting in the middle knots). New panel layout and much much more...

We had some realy good fun out there today jumping around and seeing what this kite can do. I rode it off the new KICK bar (45cm). I thought it was going to be a tough turner ? but I was so surprised when I whipped off a kiteloop without even trying.

This is a realy fun and easy kite to fly...

Hey guys,

I rode today at Contacios in the same 12 knots and I managed to stay upwind when I wasn't hammering waves in the 5 knot sweep too. I weigh 87 kilos at the moment and was riding a 145 Sidewinder. Only difference was I was on a 9.0m Reactor.

Biggest isn't always best (Please pardon me for the pun)

It was almost light enough to pull out my BIG kite, ...... a 12m Reactor.

Have a great day!

G'day Mr Plow
I think someone at Best has goofed a bit on the bottom end of the 21, the realistic range is more like 6/7 knots to 12/13 knots.
If you are a big person, and like to get out in light winds they are a great machine, definately the correct and most up to date tool for the job.
At 72kg I would never need anything bigger than the 18BFK, but these days I tend to just get the biggest board I can find and go with the smallest kite that will work, and for me that is often a 16M kite.

They really are a great kite and are exceptional value. Turning is much improved over the previous model and each BFK flies like a kite 2 - 3 sizes smaller.

Hopefully you can get one or try one soon.

Cya and

Goodwinds

Hey BD,

Just mentioned it for a reaction! Felt particularly mischievious yesterday arvy. [}:)]

Point of the reply was that you are far better off with a slightly bigger board costing maybe $800-$1000 (or $400-$600 2nd Hand) rather than spending $1800 on any big kite that turns slow and jumps low.

Smaller kites are more fun, even in light winds when you have to work 'em.

To all the crew that own kites > 16m kites, not wanting to rain on ya parade or question your decisions. I know some of you ride in places where there aint much wind, but my observations lead me to believe guys hang onto big kites even when they can easily switch down with the help of a bigger board.

Being less mischievious this morning

Morning Darren,

Have you even seen/flown one of these baby's ? I find it hard to believe when I think I'm the only person who has one in Perth at present ?

I'l agree with you that big kite's are not as fast as small kite's, however the "BFK" is heaps faster than my 21m Nemesis & 20m Yarga and these kite's are not slow either...

Jumps, I dont think I've ever ridden a large kite that does not jump well...

any ways regards browneee

One of my mates who rides an 18m BFK says he loves the kite, I ride an 18m Vision and love it (it kicks the BFK's ass IMO) and the same day we were out, me on a 118 Vision board, BFK mate on a rocketfish, and another mate on a 10m RRD Type Wave with a surfboard having just as much fun, if not more riding small waves in side-off wind. It was only around 10-12 knots I'd say. Though Darren was joking, I'm thinking he's got the right idea.

I bought a 16m from Security two years ago - and it did the trick while learning - but now i prefer to go with a bigger board and a smaller kite in light winds (around 15 kts)

Still keep the 16m for less than 15kt days.

Some of these big kites must feel like you're driving a truck.....
slow-motion kitesurfing. These trucks pushing thru the air have so much drag-factor. Try using a smaller gruntier kite with a slightly larger board, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Also be more aerobic when you ride by working the kite a lot more. Apparent wind is the key to kiting in pus wind. Get a sweat happening.

Also ride 'light'. When I windsurfed I used small sails because I mastered the art of hanging off the boom and sailing 'light', instead of weighting up the board. Similar techniques can be applied to kiting, don't be a lazy rider and just hook-in, set your edge and plow!
