Please note:
1. I am a snowboarder that wants to get into Kite surfing
2. I made this decision about a week ago :) sorry
3. I know pretty much zero about kite surfing.

However I am transporting a Land Rover Discovery from the UK to WA at the end of the week and could therefore buy some starter gear in the UK and ship it over with the car. I could also get some others some (within reason) gear and bring it too.

Knowing nothing about the Kite surfing set up in the UK and WA and with a week to go to get organised, I reckon I've pretty much left it too late to make anything of the opportunity to bring gear over, however wondered if you could help.

Can anyone let me know if it is:
a) Worth buying anything in the UK and bringing it over, is it cheaper?
b) What is good to help me get set up
c) If there is anything (again within reason) that I could ship for them to WA to return a favour.

Thought exactly the same thing , but turns out it can be full if there is an "unaccompanied personal effects statement" completed.

Found out last week, which is why everything is so last minute.

so maybe you've been able to read between the lines from the other responses but the short answer is no.
not sure if you'd save money, but I know there's not enough difference to make it worthwhile.
with kiting;you get your lessons before you buy your gear (the instructors give you free hire gear)
and they will tell you which is the right type and size of board and kite for you
and it's best to know if you'll be a river and/or ocean kiter before you buy gear

Yeah true.
Not worth doing unless its a classic car. Anything later than 1989 and it is a PITA to get an import permit. Even if you do, you will then be up for a hole heap of import duty (unless its a classic car). Quarantine will have a field day with it if its been off road, and Dept of Transport will be a lot harder on you when you register if its later than 1989. (Prior to 89 it only has to comply with the safety regs and rules that were in force on the date it was made).
You will also have to wait 3-4 months for it to arrive.

bring your discovery over it will have to go over the pits but if its in decent nick you may get away with a few bits and bobs they can be fussy

dont put anything decent in the car it will get nicked my bmw got lots of goodies taken out of it including a BMW medical bag ( $5;00) the trouble is you have to give them the keys and between the crew on board and the dockers who knows who has been at it nobody knows anything and trying to prove who took it is imposs

bring me a few cartons of boddingtons draft (cream of Manchester) some decent tea,sausages,mcvitties chocky digestives, and ill give you free kiting lessons

geez with how expensive lesson are, he sure would be getting a deal
