I am ALWAYS up front with my students about importing FlySurfers and tell them that I am biased ... but as a result of years of experience on almost every type of kite on the market.
I have been teaching longer than anyone else in Australia and taught for years with Wipika LEI. I completely disagree with Damo about the speed of learning flying skills - Damo often teaches with a 2-line LEI to start with and that's fine and sure they will pick up the basics more quickly than going straight to a 4-line kite (of any type) but most people buy a 4-line kite and it only takes about an extra 30 mins max to learn on a 4 line to start with.
I switched to teaching with FlySurfer foils because they are much easier for people to learn 4-line concepts, are safer and are significantly easier to relaunch in even the most demanding conditions. Unlike some others in the sport, I became the importer because nobody else was and I loved the kites - not finding an opportunity and trying to flog the product off.
If you ask my students I always encourage them to try before they buy and make their own decision. But I also tell them to look at the total picture incl: setting up, actually use the safety systems and then relaunch off the water, wind range, repairs and maintenance, life of kite, etc.
I love foils but am the first to admit that most people opt to buy LEI - but then again I am into wave riding and like my own directional boards too

I really believe the current popularity of LEI has nothing to do with performance, safety or any logical reasons but is more a result of peer group pressure, marketing and bull**** spread about foils like has appeared on this thread about dropping a kite by yourself, water relaunching, etc.
Cheers,
Ian Young
