Hi,

I thought it would be good to start a new thread for this topic.

It was being discussed in a thread about clean up Australia .

Kitepower and hurrah were talking about this ...

What can we do ?
What has worked at dolls ?

I remember at Brighton in Melbourne they have signs posted for designated kite launching area ...

We're looking for sensible suggestions too ... :-)

The first step would be to advise everyone: STOP GOING IN THE FIRST PARKING LOT LIKE SHEEP! I NEVER UNDERSTOOD WHY KITERS DON'T DISPERSE TO THE ENTIRE BOTANY BEACH, ALL THE WAY TO DOLLS POINT!!!

This way will be a lot less kitemares, tangled lines, etc.

What about the idea of posting a code of conduct for kitesurfers ?

When you go skiing there are code of conduct signs posted everywhere

Also, I have seen a sign for code of conduct for mountain bikers at Baw Baw

what like pending bans and restrictions at every beach in the metro area, a massive and rapidly growing influx of traveling kiters from every part of the globe every summer, regular car break ins, and just generally overcrowded kiting everywhere you go within the metro area.... oh wait I think I just described Perth

The biggest problem we face at our local here in the east nsw is,

trying to find someone else to kite with in the perfect cross/off waves.

Been having way too many glassie solo sessions.

Went to the 1st carpark at Botany for the first time yesterday. That is way too many people for such a small beach! Maybe it was the behaviour. People not really respecting right of way, jumping etc. Maybe it was the 35knot gusts...

And its not like there is something special about that location. There's no flat water or anything and it is virtually identical to every beach along that section of botany.

Wont be coming back. I'll head down wind a couple of beaches and have it to myself!

Yeah I was there yesterday for the first time as well. Normally I go around to Dolls to watch my mates and was stunned at how many kiters were in the one small section. Yet if you looked either way up or down the beach there was maybe 2-3 kiters either way.

I was surprised that I only saw one bad tangle between 2 kites out there, but there was plenty of near misses that could have ended badly. I saw a fair few people that were either unaware of those around them, or just didn't care, that were short tacking across in front of guys coming in, jumping on their way back out right in between groups of others, and a lot of down wind riders holding their kites way too high when passing. The 2 morons on the jet skis screaming right through the middle of the kiters didn't help either [}:)] .

I'm def going to be heading away from 1st car park, there is no reason not to spread out along the beach, there is sooo much room along that strip and they are all pretty much identical.
