Ok i ganked this idea from the surfing forum.
Spill the beans on your best kiting session ever.
Mine was the first time i kited at lano.
It was a steady 20knot breeze february or march. i was still in the learning stage, i could go upwind and do some little jumps. it was also the first time i had ever kited on flat water, as i usually go off the beach. i started making some of the biggest jumps i had done yet (pretty small though) and the water being flat was going faster than ever. it stayed like that for perhaps 2hours, and then i saw a sharkie coming to say hello. i was really shifting towards the shore then.
So yeah that was the best kite i have had.

Funnily enough, it wasn't here but the in yUK.

Easter weekend, low tide, mid day at Hayling Island (think a sand bar bigger than Woodies and flatter water, but less wind). We had 20 knots of wind, it was sunny (pretty rare) so we went at it. It turned into a a pretty hard 5 hour session. There were some kids who were getting a bit handy at the time and the pushing each other on that happened was unreal. My body was sooo sore....

But thats not it, I woke up the next day and it was still blowing. Battered, bruised andd sore the same crowd hit the water for another 5 hours of the same.....and again the next day. We had 4 solid days of kiting in the end, I dont know anyone there who wasn't completely fooked by the end of that weekend. Legendary, but I've never ridden as hard since.

common rellie, surely there was a time that stood out, that you wish could happen again, that you tell your kiting friends about at the beach when its crap.

How depressing is this, been doing it since 2002 and no distinct best kite.

Honourable Mention- Lano this Feburary
- Woodies in summer
- Mandurah in a storm

when i had peli all to myself one time-it was getting dark when i came in (with day light savings). it was the best sesh ever, i even had a crowd of people on their evening walks stop and watch.
some wind surfer caught my kite just before he drove off.

Hard to choose?
1st lesson ever had me buzzing for 2 weeks until next lesson, couldn't wait!!

Also 1st session at Shoalwater. My 1st time on flat water. Classic - over powered on a 13m in 23-25kts for 3 hours (until rt leg quivering so bad I couldn't stand up), with only 2 other lads out. Truly awesome day. Of course the spot is rubbish now, so i wouldn't bother trying to find it. Same experience for Salmon Bay (Rotto) but 9m in 27+ kts - only me out and ranging from flat water, bombies, ecerything on offer and only me out for 3 hrs (no-one even on the beach to laff at my stacks). This is me after wards

Great thread DP. [:)

THere all good. A memorable moment was a session with Dustin and another 2 of the crew when the wind stopped. We were packing up to go home then it kicked in again half the crew went home so the four of us went out. We ended up taking a gamble going round a pretty dangerous point where the wind can be really dodgy and if it stopped blowing (like it did earlier that day) it would have forced us into a real kitemare. The gamble paid off and the session was totally epic going from Mudjimba to Castaways and been powered by a front the whole way. We got there the front overtook us and it started pouring.

Plenty of great sessions this year.....

a trip to the outter reef last month currenty takes No.1 spot. Solid 25 knots SE and 12 ft surf pounding the reef. 3 of us had the whole ocean to ourselves!!!!

yesterday after work is worth a mention too. water temp 28C, air temp 26C, 20 knots and glassy inside the lagoon. just perfect to work on my unhooked tricks. landed some and finished off with an intense sunset.

Whichever sessions was my last kite session. A close second is preparing for the next session and the first few seconds after leaving the beach and you're skimming across the top of the water on a thin bit of plastic, its all good.

Tried my first Kung Fu and nailed it with a downloop added in near the end That was the most intence experience ive ever had unhooked it was soooooo sick! landed bout 2m away from beach. i also spent alota time just pissing about doing super lit S bends and stuff like that thanks to the current. oh and dangles it was first day i worked on my dangles! best spot ive ever kited by far! soo much flat water and wen tide is mid way out u get a butter pool inside near beach to play with

Yes I concur Dustin! The 1st backraoll (even though I smashed myself) was awesome!!! I was tempted to pimp for sponsorship I felt like such a legend.

I know it is terribly low tech for the super heroes out there, but they still feel wicked to do, I just gotta work on getting them nice and fluid - not rushed - right instructor Pat?

This day was a fantastic 2hr overpowered-ish (25 kts) downwinder from Flozzer to Scabs on my 13m. So knackered at the end, I stack-landed my kite on the beach I could barely crawl out of the surf. Many tas to the chap who grabbed my kite

After the frustrations of learning the basics, my best session was definately when I finally nailed it and was hooting along with some idea of what I was doing in Mombasa, Kenya. Freeking awesome.

My first day of going upwind was the best feeling ever. No more Walks of shame nothing beats that feeling. Walking a kite back along a beach in summer is pretty hard work.

Would have to be my second time riding, as I think you always remember that first jump / near death experience :-)
Ok so it's 2001 and I've been pratising for 2 weeeks on light days got up the day before on windsurf board and had fun ride around 12knots.. Toady is 20- 25knots I'm flying a fone 7m flat foil 2 line no safety, but I put a body board leg rope on the side of the bar so I wouldn't loose the kite if I let go. ok my mate holds the kite why I put on the wake board bindings, i'm in comfortable he hands me the kite I'm unhooked and outin the water a bit.
Now I dive the kite get ripped up out of the water. I land and get my edge in and am hooking on a reach straight across the bay, this is unreal, I sart getting faster awesome.. ok now time to slow down, so I send the kite back yep I go up and up I look down man I'm high this is sick. I keep the kite above my head and land only to still be accelerating down wind. I then trip my toeside edge and start to go end over end.
I let go of the bar now I'm dragging while the kite is looping after 2 loops the leggy snaps. the kite lands a mile down wind and is floating to shore I swim up wind and grab the board and paddle in.
My mate says that looked so sick, it was I was hooked.. we re set up minus the leggy and he has his go :-)
Nothing like learning while knowing nothing. I'm glad there are qualified instructors these days :-)

Four best kitesurfing memories:

1- My first lesson a few years ago;

2- A few weeks after the first lesson, when I suddenly understood how to tame the power of the kite, which immediately resulted in standing on the board for a duration that felt like eeeever (probably 50 m )...

3- A WAKSA downwinder between Leighton and Swannie, with jumps till exhaustion!!!

4- More recently, a slighlty overpowered day on a 10m last year: HUUUGE jumps in a total euphoria!

Oh yeah!

BEST MOMENT : first time properly to WA, driving up from Perth, turned up at Geraldton at like 3.30 and it was blowing maybe 20-25 knots, went direct to the lighthouse and just went out on my 7! good surf on the reef and that inside section is stupidly flat and smooth. kited till sundown, met some great people.

WORST MOMENT : Loosing all the photos from the best moment taken by the chicks on the beach, like the kiteloop with sunset behind! GUTTED..
