Sick of my outdated seat harness cutting off the blood supply to my balls hence any suggestions on the best current ones around would be most appreciated. Yours painfully.

my advice would be dont get one, waist for kiting is far better (unless you are very round), well i think it is anyway.

lol... Don't get a DaKine Fusion Hawaii one... It's a good enough harness and usually pretty comfortable and doesn't ride up (unless with major gusts), but the spreader bar adjustments on the side to tighten it, get very, very stiff and hard to adjust, so stiff in fact that you have to make sure you wet it before hand so you can tighten it enough that the spreader bar doesn't become implanted in your ribs and busise you

I have a Fusion.

If you wash your harness after every use you wont have that problem.

Just hang it on the line and squirt it with a hose.

Also - dont let it dry out on the line - take it off whilst still damp.

I've got a Dakine Fusion and nothing wrong with it. I would highly recomend the Dakine Storm, same as a Fusion only doesn't have as nicer material. Good price at around 160 bucks. When my old seat harness broke i started using it as a waist, and couldn't stand it. It hurt my back too much. It's allright for maybe an hour, but any longer than that and it's just uncomfortable.

Dakine Nitrous. Had a Fusion - it's a good harness, but the Nitrous is way more comfortable (to me!) and doesn't ride up like the Fusion can. I also had problems with the spreader bar clips bending out riding toeside on the Fusion and haven't had that problem (yet) on the Nitrous.

Dakine Fusion. Super comfortable, keeps the hook in just the right spot (for me), no problems with it at all so far after approx. 2 dozen uses. It gets rinsed off after each use.

Ocean Rodeo session harness are great also - they use rock climbing leg straps which prevents them being uncomfortable. Search for some reviews.

Are the Dakine Nitro harness shorts similar to a seated harness?

Don't buy a Dakine one - mine exploded shortly after i bought it, and I had to borrow the precious waist harness - known as HRH (His Royal Harness). Apparently, I stretched it all 'the wrong way'. Or something.

a good kite shop has a good range of harnesses.
everybody has a different shape.
try on, hook in.
take your time.
choose comfort and sturdiness.
tell the salesman to bugga off if you need time to decide.
make sure the bar can't hit your ribs.

Hi,
I am a doctor who saw the light (took up kiting) a few years ago, I previously windsurfed for 20 ys with a waist harness with no problems. I have recently changed to the DAKINE fusion and no longer live on naprosyn!
I guess with kiting, because the pull angle is more often upwards, it makes sense to use a seat especially if you have any back pain. The waist harness is pulling directly against soft tissue/muscle and unsupported spine/ribs as opposed to your pelvis/arse. It is also more natural to "sit" against a gust when the force is upwards.
I agree with the comments regarding the spreader adjustment and will try the suggested remedies.

I'll retract my previous comments ^^^

I have just thoroughly washed my harness, and it's now dry, and work's like a charm, and isn't sticking - I will always make the time to wash my harness out after each use from now on

Looks brand new now

A few words of warning for those who use the Da Kine Fusion - it should come with a DANGER tag (maybe it did?).

I used it for a year or two and had the top straps tight and the bottom ones loose so the hook was a bit higher - almost killed me!

My first day trying back loops off waves with my hands at the ends of the bar - another no no...anyway sent the kite into my first kiteloop and hit the water so hard that the bar smacked into my ribs and broke them! Was in so much pain I thought I was going to drown.

Make sure you do the straps up really tight....

I'd like to know when is somebody going to come up with a better all-round harness in general ? ... I've got bruises galore (around the groin area) from my new Cabrinha seat harness and it seems that the guys using waist harness's get hit in the lower ribs ... what we need is a cross between a seat and a waist harnes made especially for kite-boarding (are we still using harness's that were designed for wind-surfing?) ... whoever, comes up with the perfect kite-board harness will make a killing...

As per previous poster, check out the ocean rodeo website and their session harness...looks the goods. If my Fusion was knackered I would be getting a Session myself.
