Twist your feet (duck stance) so that it is more secure. I had the same prob, but you get over it.

I find the straps have to grab the sides of your feet aswell as press down on the top to hold properly. try closing the straps inward by moving the bolts. if that is a pain dont be aftraid to cut the foot pad.
(if you have contoured pads, the inside of the pads will be really high, do that bolt up first while the strap is twisted 180 degrees around then twist the strap into position and do up the outside bolt, good luck)

Agreed with all above. The foot bed and straps you have are as important if not more so, than the board you have.
There are rider preferences of course. Wakestylers like more locked in while others like loose all the way to strapless. Personally I like to ride loose, but will tighten up for certain conditions.
Advantage of loose is you learn to "feel" the board, and you can slide your foot postion for confort (useful for long sessions and long tacks). Locked in will work less muscels I believe. But to each their own.

sounds like your feet are different sizes

No no no, you don't want the straps pushing in from the sides, that's a general misconception. You want it pushing down onto your feet. Get the straps as far away from the pads as possible so the straps form more the shape of a rainbow than a horseshoe over the feet.
And yes I know that a rainbow is actually a halo/full-circle so no smart assed comments.

davespruce,
I'm sure it's only personal preferance but i have the straps not that much wider than my foot. a fairly snug fit but enough to shift my foot maybe only 2cm left to right inside the straps.
could you give us a little spiel about the advantages of a broad reaching strap vs narrow ones
cheers

You want the straps to be broad so they will push DOWN onto your feet not from the sides.
What you really need the straps for are when you get airtime which means you and the board will be lifted up. Apart from that time gravity makes you stay on the board.
Also you would want to be able to easily come loose of the straps if needed, something that is alos easier if the straps are just pushing down and not sqeezeing you in like a vice. Also it is more comfortable and better for the feet and the straps are also designed to be broad.
Simple as that
