Just got back from an epic session at Birubi point in a sou wester.(spotted Tims post re sou westers being pretyy gnarly in Sydney,How is boat harbour in a sou wester?)
Any way back to the point, if ur in Sydney and westerlies and sou westers are drivin you nuts a drive up to Birubi (near Pt Stephens will probably reward you well.Anyone reading this down south way i would imagine Geroa would get a similar effect
We went in at lavis lane near williamtown and the surf was a mess like everywhere around Newie today and as we got up to biribu the waves sorted themselves out on the big sandbars (even though from the shore it still looked messy)and there were big flat gaps between the waves and the sweep was running in the opposite direction to the wind Sweeeet!Wind was around 15-20 kts and i was on a 10 V fiona who is 25 kg lighter than me was on a 15 V .Sounds silly eh!!
i took the kids up also with the dogs and we all had a blast racing around the beach and dunes in the buggy giving the kids rides.

cheers

lach

Hi Float,
Two of us also had an epic day at Fingal Bay spit! Seems we are spoiled for choice in Port Stephens. We made do mostly fully powered up on 10's and 11's. How far down the from the surf club end (Anna Bay) did you kite?
constant winds,
Baz.

Lach,

Boat harbour was gusty but kiteable. Only four of us though on Sunday afternoon. Sydney kiteboarders hibernate in winter .

I'll have to come up the coast some time.

yep birubi was fun. Just have to look out for the traffic jam of 4wd's streaming down the beach - easy to come in overpowered and skid clean under one of those shiny critters

Hi Lach,
We kited mostly in front of the spit, took a while to get in sync with the wind and waves but definitely worth it. We tried the back keeping in close, mostly in the gap. Had too be a little conservative otherwise next stop was Broughton Island!
Contant winds,
Baz

Hey Victor.......sydney kiteboarders dont hibernate!!! There were a fair few of us out at dolls.....I got a great ride in before 1pm and there were a fair few round at Yarra Bay. There are fewer of us out at this time of the year and we spread over a wider area

I must have missed people down at Dolls. When I drove past no one was there.
